When Love Is A Three-Letter Word

Post by gabejr »

Hi, my name is Gabriel and I'm new to this board. I want to share some of my poetry. This is a recent one I wrote last night. I don't think it's any good but I'll put it up anyway for a response. I had trouble with apostrophes being posted so I took them out, in case you find any grammacial errors.

When Love Is A Three-Letter Word
By
Gabriel Serrano

You were a boy to hold a golden statue of a woman
That you held high on a pedestal for regard to them
She was an ideal goddess that was less than human
But when you grew up, you would then understand
And despite everything it stands for, that you heard
When love for me and not you, is a three-letter word

You became a man not knowing more than the next
You didnt realize that it was to be so hard and complex
As you obsess and desire this fetish you called love
You were so blind and lost to what it is and was not
It is a blessing they never gave, as if you were cursed
When love to me and not you, is a three-letter word

And you were the one to save your love for someone
But you never tried to have anyone else, now, come
So you bribed the damsel to open up and give herself
As it was so easy but not cheap or worth it to even tell
And though it felt so good, for you it soon got worse
When love for me and not you, is a three-letter word

You dont listen to woman but see curves and faces
You used to be so innocent but now youre a menace
Theyre a whole person to want their piece of meat
So now you are just a beast to their feminine beauty
But you only manage to sting yourself and not a bird
When love to me and not you, is a three-letter word

You see images of women spread their arms for you
But all of them in their pose dont even know you
As you try to reach out and grab and touch all them
You cant even get close, not to a limb or their hem
Instead of their heart, you want in their pink purse
When love for me and not you, is a three-letter word

I take love into my hands
And spread it over my pants
Now, dont you feel so proud?
Man, why do you look so down?
Can you show me what love is?
Because I know its not like this
A one-track mind trains my one eye
My blood rises to know youre mine
She said, Only a chicken eats chicken hearts.
And thats what sets me apart

You feel this emptiness like it was this lonely room
And the world of flesh that you have been consumed
But is there a queen of hearts for my jack of spades?
To knight him a saint and to abandon his sick trade
To know love and sex isnt the same, nor does it hurt
When love to me and you, becomes a four-letter word

Welcome to the Board, Gabriel :D

What a fabulous intro! You are an excellent poet! 8)
Your subtle play on the "three-letter" and, finally, "four-letter" word for love was innovative and fresh. A journey from 'biology' to 'psychology' and maturity of heart and soul. Bravo!

Leonard has touched on that ambiguity in the song, "Light as a Breeze" (I think that's the title?), where he deliberately uses "love" where it is expected to be, and should have been, "lust", to fit the scene and rhyme.

I'd say you have made a very successful debut. I am confident I speak for others in saying we are happy to have you here, and look forward to more. Pen on, poet. :D
