Great idea about the background music. Any live music planned for the pubs - I know this was mentioned previously.
Cant believe that at this time in 2 weeks will be over there!
Looking forward so much to the evening of 31st and ofcourse to seeing everyone.

This comment from Monday's Irish Times :
"Any farmer whose land is parched with drought might want to consider organising an outdoor music festival
to summon the rain"
Met Ireland will issue us with their long-range weather forecast next week .
Ken Ring , who has successfully predicted long range forecasts by the study of the moon , was on radio Eireann this evening, he claims on his website that the end of July in Ireland will be dry but cool.
Let us hope Met Eireann concur and the Gods take note. jeney.

Many of the pubs in Sligo will have a varied selection of live bands, singer/songwriters etc. performing.
I hope to have a few traditional musicians from the Carlow area playing over the weekend.
After the Concerts I believe Shenanigans will have live music ( they have a dance floor ) .

The tree planting ceremony will take place in Sligo.
All I can say at this stage is that Leonard Cohen will not be taking part in the ceremony,
but someone close to Leonard will perform the honours on the day .
The tree planting will be followed by a reception,
I will be giving details of this event to the Sligo Champion today and same will be Posted here shortly.
Thank you Frelander for the original suggestion,
like all the other suggestions submitted to this thread it was considered and acted on, .
could you tell us on what day the tree will be planted ?.
Some would like to be there for that and the reception.
Is the reception by invite ?
I would like to know how can I become a member,
Have I to be a member to attend the meetings before the concerts.
Does anyone know which hotel Leonard is staying in , will he be at the reception or making guest appearences around the town ? I have a book of his that my mother wants signed, it would mean a lot to her now, any advice will be a help to us. Thank you in advance, Joe.
Hi joehar and welcome to the Forum! By the simple step of registering, you've become a member of the Forum, which is a wonderful, varied grouping of Leonard Cohen fans from around the world.
You don't need to be a member of anything to attend any of the pubs or get-togethers in Sligo over the concert weekend...simply a fan! No secret code or handshake The more the merrier!
No one knows where LC, the band, singers and crew will be staying. For obvious reasons, that's very private information. Because of the strenuous nature of touring, Leonard's privacy is closely guarded, so no, he will not be making any public appearances around the town, and I would be completely surprised if he wandered into the Garavogue or Shenanigans! The only place to see him for sure will be at the concerts!!
The chances of getting a book signed by him are pretty much nil. I would suggest to carry the book with you...just in case. Over the past 2 plus years several fans have encountered Leonard strictly by accident, and when that happens he is always gracious and will usually allow a photo to be taken, or will sign something. If I remember correctly the only item one person had on them was their passport!
Anyone who has booked hotel rooms through 1800Hotels.ie please check your booking as mine was cancelled today. I would hate anyone turning up, especially from abroad, and finding out that their room is gone.

welcome joehar,
" guest appearances around the town" indeed
it is Mr Leonard Cohen we are talking about here - not Jedward or Bertie .
Seriously though if you find out the hotel ( I believe some members know !) leave the book at the hotel reception for him to sign, it worked in Dublin for someone I know, worth a try, jeney. kildaregenealogy@gmail.com

ladydi has made an excellent reply to the above question, but for the sake of those who might also intend or hope to meet Leonard during this Tour , I reproduce here comments / advice to another fan from lizzytysh on this topic. I think this reply sums up what a lot of Leonard Cohen Forum Members and Fans already believe :

Hi J ~
Welcome to the Forum with your wish that so many of us share. Leonard's schedule is so full and his attention to his work so divine that his concerts are marked by all that his particular level of focus entails. Long practice sessions, details perfected, time alone, performance, and rest. He just doesn't go the route of fan interaction, anymore. When he meets people, he gives too much in spite of himself and his own needs, so the most effective way to manage that is to not interact with fans on any basis other than serendipity.
If you should run into him somewhere, he'll be cordial, autograph, speak or converse with you a bit, and allow a photo or two. You can come here and blithely mention it or outright brag. We'll be happy for you and either share our own experiences or continue to hope for the same one day. I wish you the best toward a chance encounter with Leonard; however, the backstage passes just aren't items that fans are given. Enjoy the heck out of him while he's onstage, though .
lizzytysh wrote 28th April 2010: it all needs to be by serendipity now, and I'm confident that Leonard has his energy protectors looking out for him there, too; or if you by luck meet up with him one-on-one somewhere, Leonard is self-protective enough to be able to extract himself and move on, and with such grace that his exiting won't be awkward for the other person. I'm sure he hopes that when people ask if they may have just a moment with him, that they'll be considerate, circumspect, and self-disciplined enough to keep it at that. With his going to all these wonderful places, I'm sure that no one who loves Leonard as all of us do would want him to be held hostage in his hotel room through fear of running into arduous fans. He deserves to maintain his freedom of movement.
carlowmike .
PS. one has to remember also that Leonard is now in his 76th year .

joehar,
as ladydi said all are welcome at any of the meet-ups .
(no harm to place a few reminders here at this point ).
Two pubs are nominated as meet-up Venues for Forum Members and Fans,
The Garavouge and Shenanigans
(across the road from each other) .
The Garavouge will have Maarten in the Library Bar distributing nametags to those who have ordered same.
The Library Bar will also serve as a meeting point for members who need to connect with each other.
Shennanigans is where some members are having Friday night dinner (from 7.30pm) with Lunch menu at 14 euro for two course meal.
They have 54 Forum Members booked in for that,
the restaurant holds 100 people so there is plenty of room, just walk in on the night.
Shenanigans also serve all-day Breakfast for 10 euro.

Thanks Carlow Mike for all that you have done in Sligo in preparation for the big weekend!
Hard to believe it is getting so close when at one time it was a long way away.
I am curious to see where the tree will be planted as that is such a lovely thing to be happening.
That tree honouring Leonard will be there long after all of us are gone...(depending what type it is ).
Look forward to seeing all the venues mentioned above and especially Lissadell.
Can hardly contain myself thinking we are going to be seeing Leonard live in concert so soon...

I wonder if priority coaches are running buses from Dublin or Cork for Saturday concert ?
Priority Coaches have told me they will run buses from any city or town in response to demand for service.
links to same were provided in previous Posts.
This is where we miss the "record shops" who also acted as Ticketmaster outlets,
they were a great asset for organising transport for punters to concerts etc.
It is also worthwhile to check the Bus Eireann link.
No news on the tree-planting ceremony yet .
