I held the dollar in my angry hand
and was forced to disagree
with all the persons whom we had met before
that said our captives be set free.

For they themselves have not seen
this perfect single golden path
instead they chose to lose themselves in love
and embark in their souless tasks.

And I the begger on the windy street
put out my lone cup for the spill
to catch all the greatest pity of the world
and choose my prey as I will.

For long I lived in this restless world
taking all thoughts as my own
until the people had all disappeared
and all the world their graves had sown.

And the city cumbled like a crippled hand
the cracks in the sidewalk grew
until the man on the city street alone
could see himself as someone too.
