It is wonderfully mystifying how ones thoughts can 'spiral…'coil' with another's as time folds in on itself.that is truly spooky! - Late last night I picked up a copy of The Time Traveller's Wife (which I bought with some other bits after rummaging around in a second hand book shop a while ago) and I read the exact same Derek Walcott poem that has been included in the first pages of this book! - It struck me how relevant it is to this thread, and I had decided that I was going to post it - but look! - You beat me to it haha.
Dream Scene (n) ... the Spiral Staircase
In my dream, a giant spiral staircase
Rises into the heavens
From within the heart of an iceberg
It is on fire
As the melodic force of the wind
Howls across its sparkling structure
And the frozen night air
Releases waves of arctic warmth
There are bursts of light
Erupting across moonlit clouds
As though the universe was signaling
In a secret code
I climb this staircase
Engulfed in flames
Consumed by the intensity of ascension
Neither fear nor apprehension
Will prevent my dream from thawing
And as I reach the top of the spiral staircase
It collapses
But I have reached over without being burned
And will dream again tomorrow
When the horizon reawakens
And the spiral staircase returns once again.
