The Mirror's Secret

Post by George.Wright »

"Mirror, Mirror, on the wall
Who is the fairest of them all?"
and the mirror cracked
and the mirror peeled
truth and beauty were finally revealed
and if you look into the glass, past this veil of sorrow
you will catch deja vu glimpses of the future and maybe tomorrow
and if you look inside the mirror, past the glass
you may see all the wonderous secrets of the past
for the mirror is the food to the ego of vanity
and too much gazing can lead the gazer to insanity
looking into the waters of a well with a narcissus stare
can lead to strange flowers growing there
and it is much harder to stop looking and resist
when the mirror is covered with the blood of your open wrist
and if you hear the magical chimes warning of crossing the division bell
you have entered and passed the great divide, as well
dive with your soul, into the mirror's clear waters
past the golden mermaids and the mermaids lovely daughters
flow into the source of magical life and the sinister moon
and re-emerge into the other side in the devil's gloom
and turn ye around and peer back into the mirror's room
for it is completly black and reflects no light, at all, from over the doom
and you just stammer and gargle and stare vacant into space
for once you are over there on the other side of the mirror's face
reality totally disappears and you are devoid forever from the human race
"Mirror, Mirror, on the wall
Who has just had a very great fall?"

Ciao George!

"For the mirror is the food to the ego of vanity"

Did you write this line after seeing Leonard's "looking good"?

This poem has many good lines. You are getting better and better.

Vesuvius

I am still working on my second poem!

Yes, Georges has a very creative mind. I'm still very pleased to see Ben's positive influence on his writing. It's wonderful seeing the words speak for themselves, absent the repetition of exclamation and question marks for emphasis. He's also becoming more concise with his images. Your practice is really showing, Georges.
