He dreamt of the perfect one
the perfect one to draw himself tall
and stare proudly into adversity
and walk in the dark places unafraid.
He searched inside for the perfect one
and underneath his walking shoes
from the sidewalks to the graveyards
and from home to the furthest barrier
he dare not cross, ever.
He always kept the pictures of the one
engraved on his fragile mind
until he saw the flawless one
in a tall derelict house
with the curtains drawn
and the skeleton of a horse standing
on the lawn outside the window.
