And if anything is presented to Leonard I hope someone with good English checks the inscription and ensures that if it needs an apostrophe it gets one!
Reading all the Sligo threads on this site has made me think about the obsessive behaviour and wonder whether LC fans (myself included in this introspection)are a bit mental or missing something in life.

Well if for one, sincerely hope the Leonard Cohen event 2014 is NOT held in Ireland.

If the sligo threads are anything to go by, heaven help us all if it is

DSM IV Code 300.3 Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
A person with obsessive-compulsive disorder has either obsessions, or compulsions, or both. The obsessions and/or compulsions are strong enough to cause significant distress in their employment, schoolwork, or personal and social relationships.

Sounds like the Forum (subsection 300.3.071, Sligo and all points west) all right, but as himself says ‘I’ve also studied deeply in the philosophies and religions, but cheerfulness kept breaking through… ’. You have to laugh.

To give carlowmike his due, he thought a separate thread was necessary just for "newbies" seeking "help". Unfortunately for him, lots of people who were neither "newbies" nor needed help joined in there, as did commercial interests. He forgot that most people don't bother reading the title of the thread, but can't resist getting stuck into an argument - the way a crowd always gathers to watch a fight or an accident...

I appreciate your comments TipperaryAnn.
I did not realise until too late in the day that discoversligo was a private profit making enterprise.
I thought, at least, it was a Public / Private partnership , funded by County Council, Government agencies and private investment.

We do not have the concept of private investment for profit in tourism in Carlow (but then we do not get as many tourists as other areas !).
I have been involved in aspects of tourism most of my life and could never make a bob out of it.
So last thing I suspected was that a private investor would operate a tourist guide business.
As I have already stated I regret having introduced commercial interests to this Forum.

The people I met at the meeting in Sligo are very proud that Leonard Cohen is coming to their town and are eager that prices for services remain at normal levels during the weekend of the Concert, as they do not want Sligo to be regarded as a "rip-off" town and they are eager that visitors will have a good experience and will want to return to Sligo in the future.
This is good for us Concert-goers and for them.
Now back to the Concert and Leonard Cohen , which is why we are all here in the first place.
I expect to have more information on transport , advice on the 20 euro taxi service etc. and will post same in coming weeks on the Sligo-Help thread for those who may need it, thanks again TipperaryAnn.

Dear Mick,

I had expressed my thanks on the "newbie" thread, but will do so again. Thank you SO very very much for all your efforts on our behalf. Especially the info on the shuttles....arranging everything with the Garavogue, including the Library....looking into Irish entertainment to be at the Garavogue for all of us...the dinner on the 30th...so many, many things. You are quite awesome for taking all this on, when you live many miles away. Things seem to have settled down, and I truly believe that anything "over the top" was simply that wonderful Irish hospitality wanting to make things perfect for all of us!

Looking forward SO much to seeing you again in a couple of months!!

All the best,
Diana

edit:  after reading this again this morning I realize how silly it is to say "Irish" entertainment. That's like being in Scotland and asking for "Scotch" tape...my apologies  You obviously wouldn't be arranging Swedish entertainment...

Maarten mentions on the name tags thread that 120 attended the lunch in Barcelona. It is noticeable how few of those signing on for Maarten's lovely name tags have signed on for the Friday night dinner. This could be because many of us will not be in Sligo in time for it, but could it also be that the impression has been created that event 01 is mainly for the "old comrades in the Library group" ? Was there mention at some stage of lunch on Sunday as well ? That might be accessible to more people.

I think maybe you have something there as we dont feel inclined to attend much if any meetups as when I asked the question weeks ago, being new to the forum (not to cohen concert) re who was welcome etc I felt my question was answered in a dismissive way not being a regular. Please dont shoot me down in flames everyone--I only say this as a helpful comment not a negative

No shooting from me Roan... now I have no interest in attending anything except the concert, but I think the clarification about who was welcome where got a bit lost in the mayhem that was going on... be helpful I think if it was clarified again... here? on the nametag thread? on the "newbies" thread... I guess the nametag would be the most obvious.. maybe at the top, where Maarten has the list of who's attending.... and to all of you who are attending, enjoy ;-)

As I understand it, everyone is welcome at the meets. I think the confustion arose because there is also a room (the library?) set aside for "old forum friends" etc to catch up in a slightly quieter environment.

Ah, no... you're very welcome to a sip of my champagne, but you'll have to work out who I am first... no nametag for me... 8)

As you say, real-alan, there is a lot to be said for just going to the concerts, which it is all about, and ignoring the rest. I do like Maarten 's nametags, though, and I do admire the open, democratic way he asks for a list of those who want one. Contrast that with the Friday night dinner; has anyone, apart from the OCC (Old Comrades' Club, meeting in the Library, ) been invited to that ? You might not want or be able to attend, but you might like to feel it was open to all.
