Watched Jools Holland last night. Doesn't he get class acts? Yeh, Joe Cocker. And 'wow' Patti Smith - know nothing about her, never heard her before (child rearing days/too old/too young?) - super! Thanks for the tip, Davido.

You're very welcome, damellon. This programme is now in its 29th series and is always a must see (& must record!) with me.I have shows going back years. One of the best, needless to say,was in May 1993,when LC appeared (during his 'Future' tour). He did a short interview and sang 3 songs. Which reminds me; If you watch 'Dance me' on Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki9xcDs9jRk
watch Leonard's and Perla's faces around 3m 40s into the clip. He somehow seems to tie Perla's hands together behind her back!!! Now what's going on here?! I recall Jools commenting on it somewhere, too.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Right, Davido... something has happened there - delicate smiles on their faces say something. Probably he has "touched her with his naked hand"...

This is one of the nicest clips - and the violin part is just awesome.

This clip is awesome 8) ... one of those that you want to share and just say, "See why I love him so much?" The rest is self evident.

[An aside... his haircut is great!] Julie... sublime as ever... and Perla, with her 'straightened' hair, loving every minute of her time with Leonard.

Thanks for this link, Davido. I'll be sending it on to others.

Hi Damellon. I notice you might be at Mullingar. Look forward to meeting you if you are!

The Independent on Sunday didn't reckon much to the new Cocker cd:
Joe Cocker Hymn for my Soul Rating 2/5

With legendary musicians Jim Keltner, Benmont Tench and Bob Babbitt, producer Ethan Johns (Rufus, Ryan Razorlight) and songwriters Bob Dylan, George Harrison, John Fogarty and Stevie Wonder, you really have to go something to make a record this disappointing. What might have been the rebirth of the Sheffield singing sensation, is instead a tired retread through songs that already have definitive versions. Not that that's ever stoppped Cocker in the past. Even with a little help from all these friends, Cocker comes across as somebody who desperately needs to strip back on the gospel backing singers and reconnect with his own soul.
Anybody already have the cd to say whether it's bland or brilliant? Hymn for my Soul with Jules certainly sounded good. Should I order it, or not?

This thread came back up and something made me get this album. Three years later I can say that reviewer must have been joking. Don't play with me like that:-)! Bar maybe the first two tracks, Hymn for my Soul is a superb album - classic songs, musically very fine (far better than the pop sound of some of his 90's albums that didn't really set his voice off to the best effect), and oh my I sing a hymn for that Voice. A bit of Swahili is even included. I notice Joe is currently touring in the States with Tom Petty.

Wybe, thanks for the link to your X Factor show. Somehow, your young performer hasn't quite got Joe's dance routine and mannerisms yet. ;-)

I couldn't help going to Joe Cocker's performance at Woodstock after watching your TV show via youtube.

I saw Joe Cocker on stage in the Cavern way back then. Unbelievable.

That must be a very fine memory, Byron! How often to you see such raw passion?

Lovely, Sturgess. I will merely copy your link, and resist the urge to start posting Joe Cocker links all over the place. (By the way, as you live out that way, have you been to the Nazareth Speedway (which I read is closed down now)? Just wondering as I have developed a mild obsession with the song since seeing Mark Knopfler recently. What about you Steven?)

Took the link to youtube and then to joe cocker, then on to joe cocker with jennifer warnes, then on to joe cocker-paul mccartney-rod stewart-brian wilson, then on to amazing grace, then on to an hour of scottish pipe and drum bands playing amazing grace and the Edinburgh military tattoo. All in all, a typical trip that these threads take when they get started. Result = a very pleasant evening. Who needs TV ?! And then, I read about a 'speedway' in another offering, and I thought that I'd gone all tangential.
