What a beautiful, sensual poem, it says so much.
A kiss is a wonderful personal thing that can have so many meanings, from a social kiss on the cheek, to the passionate kiss of a lover. And I think we all too often suppress the urge to kiss someone.

The middle bit sent shivers down my spine (good ones), imagine someone looking you straight in the eyes and saying those words. You have to wonder what your reaction would be. But I suppose it depends on the circumstances (see there comes that repression again).

I don’t know if a kiss could repair a ripped heart, but I’m sure it could tack it together for a while. And I love the last bit.

‘Let's split the darkness with prism light
Let's kiss.’

That’s the sort of kiss you want to feel, a blinding white light separated into a spectrum of colours. Oooh Great poem.

Thankyou for your response Karren,
I think that I'm going to change the last bit from a ripped heart, to my ripped heart.
What I meant by that was, well, not so much that a kiss can repair a ripped heart, or that it may tack it together for a while (though I very much agree with you there), more that the powerful urge to give someone that kiss in the first place, still exists - despite a ripped heart.

You have hit some nails on the head and caught some of my definate meanings

The same principles can apply to more than just two people in eachothers company - hence the title.
But I'm playing with using the word 'Catalyst' as a title - seeing as what a catalyst actually is... what a brilliant word, still not sure though!

When you think about it Catalyst is a good way to describe a kiss. something chemical that increases the rate of reaction.
Something that hastens or makes a rapid change.

Well a kiss can certainly do that, it can be chemical or physical.

It is true that despite any heartache you feel, a kiss can still be a powerful thing.

Good title Catalyst, I like it.

I think that I will stick with Catalyst - I thought about a few words to do with reaction and chain reaction - I don' think that 'You're setting my synaptic pathways on fire' is very catchy though hmmmm!

(there's one for one of the phantom posters tsk!)

So 'Catalyst' fits the scenario of the first layer of the poem, but it also fits the other meanings too.

If only greater situations (as in scale - not importance) could be viewed with a mindful conviction to offer something truly significant, something extraordinary, of themselves to the table - despite past hurt and tragedy.

Forgot to tell you earlier A,
Your poem prompted me to try an experiment today.

Like your poem I wondered what some ones reaction would be if you kissed them for no apparent reason, so whilst in the supermarket this morning I thought I would try it out… For experimental purposes I thought I should try it on at least 3 people!

The first was a lovely old gentleman who I thought looked a bit down, I walked up to him and kissed him on the cheek, he was some what surprised and I smiled at him, he kissed me on the cheek, smiled back and walked away. (It was a very grateful smile).

The next person was a man in a business suit probably late 40’s I also gave him a smile (always find it’s a great introduction) and again kissed him on the cheek, he was a bit taken aback and said ‘What was that for?’ I told him ‘Just because I felt like it.’ He said thank you and we started chatting until a stern looking woman in a suit came up to him, gave him a threatening look and dragged him off. I think it was either the wife or the secretary (they can get very protective of there bosses!).

My third victim (sorry guinea pig) was a young man of about 22. I kissed him on the cheek. His response was startled to say the least as he said ‘do I know you?’ I said ‘No not at all’ and he grinned and went a rather nice shade of dark red.

Now what can I deduce from this? Well obviously I didn’t take the experiment as far as you would Alsiony, (supermarket wasn’t the right place) but I belive:

1 Yes it can be very confusing for the recipient
2 The reactions from the recipient were not as bad as I thought they could have been.
3 There are some lovely shades of red around this season.

May have to work on this experiment a bit longer!

Oh by the way Alisony would you be able to give me a character reference when my Case comes up next Thursday?????????

Kisses do seem to have a healing property. I’m not sure how they are for wounded hearts but they do seem to do wonders for bumped elbows and scraped knees so I would think they would be worth a try. There’s something about sharing a kiss or a touch with somebody that allows you to feel more comfortable with them, it breaks the ice and yet we do seem to be inhibited in reaching out to each other.

Well this is what is so wonderful about kisses, there really is a myriad of meanings. They can be healing (and that can apply in all sorts of ways itself). A 'magic kiss' does wonders when your child has grazed their skin, or when they are upset and need comfort. When anyone is upset and needs comfort.

Though - on the face of it, you can indeed say that I have written this in the context of sexual love, where I think it is valid, I also wrote it in a way that would hopefully be open to all kinds of interpretation - Kisses are endless aren't they? How cool is that

But this poem is also about seizing a moment, about being brave enough to make or cause something to happen - (and I think that that bravery could almost apply more to the prospective kissed rather than the prospective kisser here, depending on how it occurs to the reader. The person wishing to kiss the other has already decided 'I don't care what you've done in the past and I don't care what I've done in my own past either' ... hence splitting the darkness).

But I agree - there is, too often, too much inhibition...
