Important to many of you.

Message received from POD today.

Hi Mike,
we have not been told yet what time Leonard will go on stage.

I'd suggest checking back with us closer to the time.

Kind Regards
Clare

Discover Sligo wrote:Discover Sligo: Keith & Marion work at Discover Sligo. Marion, a student from our local college, is on a work placement for the summer and will keep the forum up to date with news and answer all the questions we can. Discover Sligo’s website and magazine aims to make it easy for people to get the information they need to enjoy Sligo. We have read the forum comments and will try to provide a concise summary of, hopefully, useful information. Please email us if we can help in anyway. Sligo is a beautiful county. It’s a privilege and a delight that Leonard Cohen will come to Lissadell and we want to do our best to help make your visit to Sligo memorable and thoroughly enjoyable. Tomorrow we will post info on questions raised in the forum eg buses, transport, access to the venue, restaurants etc. Till later. Keith :D
I'm sure everyone will appreciate the direct link to Discover Sligo for information straight from the horse's mouth so to speak. However, I think Keith and Marion should make it clear that - as I understand it - Discover Sligo is not an independent tourist information service but a COMMERCIAL ORGANISATION ie the people organising the transport to and from Sligo, to and from the concert, Sligo tours for people attending the conert and the souvenir concert edition of Discover Sligo magazine. Nothing wrong in that per se (I have already ordered my souvenir magazine - hope it's a good one for €7.50!) just so long as everyone is clear that the information / advice may not be totally independent.

I concur. It's one thing to provide a link to a useful source of information, it is quite another to have that source contribute to what is afterall the Leonard Cohen Forum. This family of LC fans come to glean what we can about Leonard not to go shopping at some jumble sale of what may or may not be available at a show venue, just look at any other city/town thread you will not find there what is happening on this/these Sligo threads. We are not here to promote ourselves, I'm sure we could all sell something on this forum but manners and respect prevails.

While I'm on a rant, why do we need to book our seats now, maybe the tour company want to "corner the market"!! I don't mean to appear ungracious or ungrateful but things are just getting a bit too commercial. Is it not time to chill and get back to basics?

Carlowmike: i have a buddy living near Sligo. He is a big Leonard fan and has a ticket for the Saturday show. it will be his first time seeing Leonard! He is off next week moving house but is happy to go along on Tuesday to lend a bit of support so was wondering when and where the meeting is on? He works in Purchasing so might be a help to get the best discounts if ye can!!!
Radar, the meeting has now been re-arranged to take place on Wednesday of this week at 11am in the Belfrey (Embassy room).

Your friend will be welcome to join us for lunch after the meeting.

Mutti I have your most recent suggestions regarding Poles, Prayer Flags and Blouses , top of the List.

You are too funny Mike! I am half joking when I said that about the prayer flags..
and in my opinion if we went for that I don't think we need to ask permission..
not re the blouses as those can be arranged ;-) ;-)
but poles and where to put them I guess someone would have to get into Lissandell early to set them up...
"just....a crazy dream"...

I saw somewhere a while ago about shuttle buses. I can't find the link, can anyone point me in the right direction. We would probably be going from some pub in the town.

There will be at least 3 bus companies supplying shuttle bus transport from the town to the Venue during the weekend of the Concerts.

I hope to meet with a Bus Eireann official tomorrow in Sligo and will post details of their plans and charges and link to same as soon as I have more information.

Oh what is going on here??? Thanks Keith and Marian for the help you have offered and are giving the forum. Of course your advice is not impartial - you are hardlly going to be promoting Donegal or Leitrim, although I am sure you would do that as well. Let's remember that the event is in Sligo and who is better placed to advise newcomers than 'Discover Sligo' - or would people be happier to listen to 'Discover Donegal'????

Re transport from hotels to concert-
I have just successfully booked shuttle bus to and from concert on the Sat night. http://www.discoversligo.com then click on leonards picture, then click on Lissadell house pic, and then chose which bus u want and what date from drop down bar- and then just go though booking steps. Can't wait to see you all there!!! :D

I noticed from the other Sligo thread that the Discover Sligo buses will not be the only ones operating to and from Sligo and to and from Lissadell in connection with the concerts. It may be worth waiting until these alternative arrangements are available before deciding which bus service to use. The alternatives may very well be cheaper.

Remember: Discover Sligo - whilst clearly very helpful - is commercially motivated.

The Posts from Discoversligo have come out of the blue, I had no idea this would happen .

I had requested suggestions and ideas to place before a meeting of "Coming Together For Sligo"
due to be held tomorrow in Sligo.

I have compiled a list of the requests and suggestions from Forum Members.

it was never intended that discoversligo would be the only agency involved.

Why they might want to upset anyone is beyond me !

There is not much point in me attending the meeting now but I intend to nevertheless.

The Discover Sligo magazine contains details of Sligo restaurants, hotels, shops etc. We are currently finalising the design of the next issue, so suggestions like a map of the concert venue, contact details for doctors etc are useful. For example, we are currently asking local restaurants and pubs to provide details of those that will be open late. This is where your requests for information can help us to help local businesses make sure your visit to Sligo is as enjoyable as possible. You can reserve your magazine on-line and we will mail it to you in advance for 5 euro within Ireland and 7.50 euro worldwide. We are also happy to receive articles from visitors to Sligo and would welcome input from Leonard Cohen fans. [And yes, by the way, we also publish a Leitrim magazine].
Can I cancel my order for the magazine please??? I thought I was buying a souvenir issue featuring the concerts, not a guide to local doctors + restaurants, pubs and other local businesses who will be vying for the concert goers' money.

If we're to be taken over by a commercial organisation, using the forum to sell stuff... "souvenir magazines" full of adverts; overpriced bus tickets, etc. etc., then I for one am leaving.... whatever you think of Carlowmike, I have no doubts about his sincerity.... but now, DiscoverSligo seem to have "found" a great source of free advertising, to a very tight target group (Leonard fans coming to Sligo) - absolutely nothing to do with what this forum was (& hopefully IS about) - I had reservations (you might have noticed ;-) ) about the volume of unnecessary information, but as I was told (by Mike... & others) I was free to skip over that.... perhaps we could be given a chance to start again? Remove all the previous Sligo threads, and start one new one.... I'm serious...

No, not much point at all, so why bother? And, as the as the anti-war slogan went, 'not in my name'.

I second that emotion.
