Calm down, Wendy made a valid point. Your tone was anything but welcoming. It great that people have taken the time to check out the basics for Sligo and thanks for doing this, but at this stage can we keep this in perspective and keep it to the essential information. There have been concerts all over the world in all sorts of venues and locations and people have managed themselves.
As they say, sometimes "Less is More".
Welcome Wendy and all others to Sligo and Ireland, I'm sure it will be a great couple of days
Whilst I know that a lot of people are excited about the Sligo concerts and planning a holiday around them, last time I looked this was a Leonard Cohen forum, not an Ireland or Sligo tourism site. All this information is readily available courtesy of tourism organisations and Google. Please can we strike a balance and keep the details down to information related to the the LC concerts and cut back on tours available, emergency dentists and doctors etc. People may have asked by e-mail for the information but that does not mean to say that the answers all have to be posted on a Leonard Cohen forum.
Wendy
Yes Wendy , but we are Irish and this is the Ireland of The Welcomes -and we need to have Sligo looking her best to welcome Leonard and his followers,
Yes we are Leonard Cohen fans but also irish and human and do at times need doctors and medical facilities --some of us do not know Google...or would never think of telling someone "check it out on google" --no ! we communicate Wendy, we help, I hope that is okay with you !--
continue with your great work carlowmike. Now here is my suggestion : Please find out what doctors are on weekend duty on that weekend and could we have their number ( no harm to see if you track down a Dentist too - I know some of Leonard's fan are old but many of us still have our teeth
Now I have no problem with anybody digging out whatever information they think might be useful, and no objection to them posting it on this thread (as long as it's contained to this thread) - myself, I've been to concerts all over the world & never felt any need to check out more than (a) how I get there (b) where I stay & (c) which is the best bar... - however, if others want the military precision, that's fine.. I'll just ignore it... I do have a slight concern however, that when "suggestions" are being put to bus companies, the Gardai, local tourism officers etc., that this is being done on whose authority exactly? This is why, having left this thread alone, I posted in response to the transport suggestion above... my views are no more or less important than anyone else's... they're just my views...
I think, for those who find it useful, the work being put in by Mike is commendable, but could we (well, I, anwyay...) gently ask that you resist the temptation to organise our weekend for us?
you may be right, I may be crazy.... but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for...
We are just supplying information ...
Anyone can act on it as they please ...
The business people of Sligo are entitled to hold meetings and make recommendations to their local authorities..
they have asked for "suggestions" as to how to make the weekend more memorable for all of us..
Members of this Forum are "requested" to make "suggestions...
Every person has the freedom to go to any pub they like in Sligo or park as allowed .. and also to skip over any of the topics that do not interest them ...
"Just Let It All Pass On By" ( as Leonard says !
But if you get one , even one item in this thread that helps ..
then it is all worthwhile...
it is only a information and help thread...that is all...
Now let us get back to "Positive" " suggestions" in order to help the Sligo people in their endevours help us...
this thread has been, at times, getting approx. 100 hits per hour (i think) so there is interest in what we are trying to do ...
News on Car parking near concert Venue later today also information on Dinner planned for Friday 30th ( for those Members who are interested....(smile) (and smile again--cool)

73 Days To Go ..
(will somebody keep an eye on the days ! I don't want to be saying down the line, "1 Day To Go" only to find the Concert was held the previous night , )
Review :
We have 3 good "suggestions" so far for the "Together For Sligo" business people of Sligo committee on Friday next.
From Jeney : Use the Shuttle Bus service, as much as possible, for transport to the Venue.
From real-alan : For provision of out-of-town "Park and Ride" facility based near Lissadell.
From: ronmid: For availability of information on doctors on duty + phone number for same ( not a bad idea should someone take "a turn" and a phone call can help to administer aid until arrival of proper medical aid )
all other "suggestions" welcome and will, I am assured, be brought to attention of relevant authorities in Sligo.
Unfortunately I have received several PMs and emails from some regular users of the Forum,
none to keen to subscribe at present as they believe there is a little "in-fighting" coming down.
I say to them tis' only ourselves getting warmed up for the Big Day.

Mike, just to clarify, I was suggesting that a park and ride "out of town" might be a little redundant, as it may as well be at Lissadell itself... and just be "park" without the "ride"... thanks...

Parking at Venue Environs For Leonard Cohen Concerts in Sligo.
The first entrance, down by the sea, as you go into the grounds, will be reserved for Parking.
No idea yet of capacity.
Some local land owners in the surrounding areas intend to open their fields for car parking.
The Gardai are at present working on a traffic plan.
It is intended that Buses and cars will travel on seperate roads to the Venue.
It is hoped that as many as possible will make use of the shuttle buses to and from the Venue.
I am assured that plenty of car-parking space, in numerous car parks, is available in Sligo.
Pick-up points will operate at all major hotels adjacent to Sligo town.

There will be at least 3 bus companies offering a shuttle-bus service throughout the weekend of the Concert.
