Oh, karrenb ~ The passion in your poem isn't just remarkable, it's marvelous! You hit on so many different aspects of what it's like to listen and try to take it all in. To say Leonard has inspired you is an understatement. You just went for it and did it! I love your finally giving over to him and letting him tell you about his life. MANY parts of your poem I loved. Well done, karrenb, well done. You've captured the spirit of adoration and desire. I, too, believe Leonard would love it .

Ya know I was thinking, maybe this thread should be renamed and made a specific thread in the PaMbtFM section, where people can post only their odes to Leonard (though also with room for comment and discussion, but with the main point being to simply express their own thoughts and creations about the wonderful man that this whole forum ultimately evolves around... in one big thread in this patch of the forum )
- It would make a lovely collection!
- Karren - You would have to change the thread title to suit this- 'All poems about Leonard welcome here' or something - and maybe a note to explain the idea of the thread at the top of your first post too...

It's been a while since we've had a poetry challenge or written about the same subject and Leonard certainly is a great theme.

I have just reread your poem and your description of yourself and am reminded of a film I saw, and loved, years ago called Educating Rita. I'ts about a middle aged woman going back to school to educate herself. Starring Julie Walters and Michael Cane. It was a great little movie. You have to see it.

I don't think you need very much help however You are reminding me of her.

Alsiony and Cate ~ I think it's a great idea to have a thread devoted to this theme. Not as a competition, though, as simplicity and passion in one's expressions regarding Leonard go a long way, though with so many here being non-native English speakers and writers, I'm afraid some might get competitively excluded. Simply not fair. The heart can be seen where syntax, rhythm, and rhyme may not [the latter parts of that sentence not referring to your poem, karrenb]. When it comes to people expressing themselves about Leonard, the heart is ultimately far more important.

I didn't mean to imply competition by 'challenge' - although I guess poetry challenges are often are competitive, that just hasn't been my experience here.

There have been times when we have written poems about specific subjects - ie the moon, a little bird, a line given by Woody. Mat once had us writing sonnets (although I didn't post to that... yet... ). None of these were competitive, the challenge was simply in the subject matter or form.

I like that sort of thing - it's a great deal of fun.

I got so excited about the idea, I didn't properly think of it like that. I didn't mean a competition at all - just a place of expression and possibly discussion.
But I think that you are right.
That's a real stinker I still can't stand that anyone would feel excluded in some way.
And I suppose that just because the poems would be about Leonard - that wouldn't necessarily protect them from being too marked and measured, with the real fear of being mocked, and the poem's point being lost or unseen. How crushing that would be to some.
I suddenly feel very sad about a great many things again.
