no title - sleepy poem

Post by Cate »

(a 'James Poem' from last spring, found tucked in a notebook yesterday )

The scent of soap
covering baby oil,
sweet almonds and vinyl.

The scent of love
still clinging to our sheets,
your hand on my hip
knees tucked behind mine.
I love and am loved.

I tuck my nose into my palms
and doze off to sleep the whole night through.

I like your 'sensual' poems the best Cate. This one is lovely in it's simple contentment.

(Hmmmm intrigued by the 'vinyl' bit... haha)

PS: I think 'doze' is with a 'z', unless you're taking it orally (triple ha)

I love that it all evolves around smells and scents - I am a very 'smelly person' (perhaps not the best phrase to choose?? :))
You know how a memory can come vividly rushing back just at the hint of an aroma connected with it - it happens all the time, and smell can be a vital part of a memory being created and stored safely.

The first three lines sound like this couple have washed together before returning to bed - I won't say anymore... but vinyl makes me think of soft sweet music playing either literally or in the heart or both.

Hands are such an intimate part of the body, and somewhere that scent can be left behind, as much as anything else

And sleeping the whole night through - happy, settled, a nice peaceful place to be.

Just a few thoughts conjured in me.

This is beautiful imagery, I really like it.

V. I liked finding this on Sunday because of how tired I was. My Hubby was camping on the weekend which meant I barley slept. I like it when he goes away for a couple of days but the bed is stupidly big and impossible to get comfortable in if your on your own.

My Dear Imaginary - doze definitely doze, believe me I no longer have the energy to do anything else all night long

I'm a smelly person too Alsiony. It's true specific smells certainly trigger very strong memories.

Thank you for your thoughts and nice words ladies.

btw karren - welcome to the forum :D
