Some of you might want to consider budget accommodation near Sligo if hotels are all getting booked up.
Try www.hostelworld.com Looks like a car would be needed as some are out in the countryside.

I have also booked into Cromleach lodge on the shores of Lough Arrow. After 17,000 kilometers it looks like a great spot to rest up for a while.

As a backup i booked a double room in the yeats hostel, in sligo town, it looks fine and for 40 euro, my wife might not be best pleased but at least its accomadation. Although we might decide to get a hotel , halfway between home and sligo, at least i can relax for a while now

thanks

Hi, We are also booked into the Clarion, but no breakfast was included. Looks like the place will be full of Cohen fans. Surely there will be shuttle buses from Sligo. If not, what's the taxi situation. Can we walk it from there to the venue. Any good pubs in the area?

You can walk it if you fancy an 8 mile hike  I would expect shuttle buses to be available from the town.... if there aren't any "official" ones, I'm sure someone will step into the gap... we're a very enterprising lot out here in the West! Good pubs...? The place is full of 'em :D :D

The Clarion's a beautiful hotel well within walking distance of the town centre. I called there on Sunday and was very impressed.

Hi,
I have booked a standard room with 2 twin beds (non smoking) at the Radisson Blu (Sligo), checking in on Friday and leaving on Tuesday (4 nights) for 168 EUR per night. Since I will be traveling alone, someone can have the 2nd bed and we can split the costs... I'm planning on leaving Monday because I've got an early flight back home on Tuesday from Dublin, so I will be canceling the last night.

Requirements if you want the extra bed:
- Leonard Cohen addict
- be nice to me
- snoring allowed (I don't)

Send me an email if you're interested!

Take care,
Maarten

Maarten 2 twin beds (non smoking)
Just to let visitors from abroad (who have not been to Ireland in the last few years) know that a smoking ban was introduced in 2007 and pertains to most public spaces.

I paste below some details which may be of interest.

Exceptions to the Irish Smoking Ban
There are certain exceptions to the smoking ban, including building sites, prisons and mental hospitals - none of these holding any attraction for most visitors.

Can I Smoke in my Irish Hotel Room or Rental Car?
Here is the good news - hotels will generally be able to provide rooms where you can smoke in. Simply ask when booking. This leniency, however, does not extend to the common areas of hotels. Smoking in dining areas or bars will still be banned.
Rental cars these days are more than likely to be sporting a "No Smoking" sign on the dashboard. Enquire beforehand with the rental car companies if you need to have a smoke while driving. The smoking ban should not extend to rental cars per se.

Heard of a private family home in Strandhill 4 miles from Sligo run by Cohen fans offering double en- suite and single rooms with Breakfast at reasonable rates for day or weekend , also laying on transport to gig.
They also have 6 berth Camper (gig transport) on site for a group traveling together.

If the family are genuine Cohen fans then obviously they would not dream of profiteering from the fact that this is a rural location with accommodation scare enough at the best of times. Factor in that this is also what passes for ‘high season‘, additionally it is a bank holiday weekend and there is an influx of people who have already gone to considerable expense to get to Sligo. When I rang to book my B&B I mentioned in passing that my wife and I had visited Sligo a few years ago researching her grandfather who was born there. When she heard this she lowered her rate by 5 euro a night. I will not embarrass her here, but she has my unswerving loyalty. She knew full well that she could charge more or less what she wanted for that weekend, but she did not. It is greed that has got the country into the fiscal mess it is in and greed is not good. Wilco I would think your initial message 'disappeared' for a reason. You can charge what you want for your accommodation that is your business, not mine, but IMHO use another Forum, ebay, gumtree or where ever. It is extremely disingenuous to have heard of a family home when two days ago you were the contact given for that same home. The price you were charging two days ago is not repeated in this current ad–why not I wonder?
