Thanks for this info on this particular drawing. It is one of my very favorites of his. I wondered about the Hebrew writing, as well.

I don't know if this is the proper thread in which to post this question, but here goes. I will be traveling to Montreal, in April, to see this exhibit. Any advice on where to park? I know the Lounge is on the Rue St. Catherine, main drag and all that, but I thought if somebody on the forum has actually BEEN THERE before, they could advise me maybe? Give me travel tips? Besides what I find on travel sites.......any advice is appreciated.

Those who can't afford reprints can buy the exhibit poster for 15$

When I am in Montreal and want to go downtown, I usually park in one of the streets between St-Laurent and St-Denis, near Roy or des Pins. Then from there it's about 15-20 minutes by foot to the exhibit (or you can take the metro at Sherbrooke station). It's a pleasant neighborhood (and close to LC's place) but be careful about the parking restrictions especially the permis de résidents signs which reserve parking space in some sections usually after 3pm.

If you don't mind paying and the hassle of driving downtown, there's a parking at the Place des Arts, just across the street from the exhibit but I don't know how full it gets. There are also other parking lots around.

If you have time, I would recommend to follow the LC exhibit by a walk to the Musée des beaux-arts to see the Tiffany exhibit, it's really worth seeing and would make a perfect day (that's what I did) :)

Have a nice trip.

THANKS for this info. I didn't know about the exhibit poster, either. I'll definitely get one of those, if there are any left! As long as I can park where I won't get towed away, I don't mind walking in Montreal......wow! I think I'm getting excited..... :D

Again, thanks!

So.......I imagine many of the forum members and other fans have taken photos of Mr. Cohen's house. Is it the house where he lives part time now (besides the one in L.A.), or are you referring to the one in which he grew up? Also, can you just wander around his neighborhood snapping pictures of his house? That's pretty funny.....but it probably annoys him too. I wouldn't go up to his door, obviously, but a photo of his place would be nice. :D (Since I'm kinda doing my "LC Pilgrimage" trip!)

Well, I haven't but I'm sure many have. ;-) I was referring to the current house near the small Parc du Portugal. Sure, anybody can wander in the parc if they like, it's public property.
Winter is amazingly warm this year, if things keep up, you should have a very nice spring pilgrimage. :)

Well, I'll grab my camera and try to be as un-touristy as I can. They ought to just have his house as part of an official bus-tour of Montreal: ".....now ladies and gentlemen, if you'll look to your left, you'll see the home of Mr. Leonard Cohen.....oh! and there he is ladies and gentlemen, stepping out on the front porch to get the morning paper---everybody wave!......" (Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm nuts, but I can dream can't I?)

Oh yeah, by the way, if I make this pilgrimage to Montreal, does that officially put me in the Leonard Cohen Fan " Disorder" category? :D

Well, I'm not the good doctor, but I would definitely say yes. 8)

Well, the symptoms get worse all the time....but somehow I don't care. (Ain't no cure....)

I will post photos of my trip when I go, if anybody's interested in seeing Montreal in spring? What does it usually look like in April? Do things bloom, or is there still snow?

I'll definitely be visiting this exhibit when I go for the Webb Sisters show Easter weekend.

The weather has been great for this early spring and I'd say snow is unlikely, blooming likely. But who knows anymore with this crazy weather.

If I have any tips for you, I'll post them.

Cheers,

My particular favorite was the one of himself reading poems to Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau, who I feel was the greatest PM Canada ever had. The drawing included an excerpt from the “Book of Longing”. At a friend's rooftop gathering, Trudeau asked Leonard to read a poem and when he finished, to read another poem and another. As a transplanted Canadian now living in L.A., I found the drawing of Canada’s two greatest National treasures very moving.

Would someone please find out the asking price for this print. I was quoted $1,200 by LC's art rep in Pasadena after I visited the exhibition one year ago at Claremont College in California. Alas, a tad expensive for me. He said the price would go up as more prints in the series are sold.

Thanks,
---Arlene

Unless I missed part of the exhibit which would really depress me and make me wonder even more about the state of my brain, I don't think this print was part of it this time.

Hey Arlene,

I'll check it out for you either this weekend or next weekend.
