The Flower Uprooted

The Flower Uprooted

Oh friend,
I spoke of deep affection,
I felt your hand in mine,
and through your eyes I saw
my own smiling face.
I was joyous for what I clearly
saw and felt from the reflection;
the flower blossoming.
The senses of control froze, threatened,
panicked in the corner.
Forced out of your space,
evicted from contentment;
the flower uprooted.
To share my great discovery
I reached for my persuasive mirror,
but you took my seed of happiness
and fled from the garden
into the mists
of caution.
Oh friend,
I only wanted you to see
the beauty that I saw in you.

I really really like this poem, it's very beautiful, it's one of my favourites of yours so far.

I love the recognition of reflections, as much as anything else about it

In my own interpretation (which I know is sometimes completely skew-wiff to how you mean it yourself!) - it makes me think of how seeing such wonderful things in someone else can also be, on the other hand, a true refection of the great things that they can inspire you to recognise and bring from within yourself.
I think that sometimes it's the case - that if you didn't have the same qualities or virtues already within yourself, then you would fail to be able to see/feel them in someone else to begin with.

Well this is just one thought that I had when reading it anyhows

Thanks for this Tera

It's so funny. I only had two ideas: basically the last two lines as one idea and using the word "persuasive." Yep, that's it. I had those two things I scribbled down on a piece of paper, and in about 10 or 15 minutes I jotted this whole poem out. Now, besides this one the last 4 or 5 poems I posted took me each about a week to write, and one called "The Prisoner" took me about two weeks. I stare at the screen, stare at the words, I write and re-write lines. I think I'm making them better as I go along, and here this tiny little 10-minute spurt gets more attention than the others. Go figure.

By the way, you are right. I didn't necessarily feel I had certain special things about myself, but she brought them out in me and I felt it happening. I KNEW (and still know) she has them in her, and she was almost afraid of letting them be exposed to me. It's so tragic. I still will never understand... :(
