Re: John Cale "Paris 1919" at the Royal Festival Hall
Hello John,
I have only got Fragments of a Rainy Season but have fancied to go and see John Cale for a while. I don't know the Paris 1919 record at all except for the cuts that made it onto Fragments. It is well reviewed on Amazon where I see it has a running time of just 31 minutes. On the My space site it says for the Cardiff concert last year Paris 1919... 'then the flip side'. Is the flip side what he does for the other hour or so do you think ? I will do some more reading later (I have got to go out now) but tickets are going very fast so, off the cuff, I wondered if there are a few words you could say that might help me make a decision.
Thank you. Mr M.

Hi Mr Man,
This is John Cale's masterpiece, and his most consistent and melodic work. He made it in 1973 around the time that he was working with Nick Drake on "Bryter Layter", which may give you a sense of where he was at, at the time. I've no doubt that he will play other songs too (possibly even "Hallelujah"). Just go!
All the best, John E

Hi John -
The Paris 1919 LP came out in 1973 -I'm not certain if it made it to CD. It's a great album.

Hi Opendoor,
There are two CD versions of "Paris 1919". The most recent one contains eleven extra tracks (one outtake, and alternate versions of all the tracks on the album).

Hello John, thank you for your thoughts; I am sorry to have taken a fews days to reply. I've not really made my mind up, not least of all as by the time parking etc. is added in, it's over fifty notes for what are now not very good seats at all. If I'm being honest, I'm just not really feeling very into it at the moment; at another time I probably would just have got the tickets last week. Must be mid-winter gloom.
Anyhoo, your mention of Nick Drake was nice; I hadn't listened to him for a while but I have had him playing now since your reply, also Jethro Tull is back on my playlist after many years off it but I got tickets for them as soon as they were released
Mr M.

Hi Mr Man,
It's worth checking the John Cale seating online from time to time, and especially in the week preceding the concert. From past experience (including twenty Brian Wilson concerts there) I've found that best seats for even the most unlikely concerts sometimes pop-up at The Royal Festival (and sometimes whole rows of them!). I was lucky enough to see Nick Drake at the same venue in 1970. I saw Jethro Tull at the Albert Hall around that time, too.
Happy New Year! John E
