"Ten New Songs" One of the Decade's Best
I don't have a link, but a few minutes ago Sharon Robinson, on her Facebook page, announced that Rolling Stone has named "Ten New Songs" as one of the 100 Best Albums of the Decade.
Congratulations to Leonard, Sharon (producer, cowriter, and performer) and everyone else who was part of this great album!

.
I'm starting to long for times when I was a fan of a certain eclectic singer-songwriter, who's fan base consisted of a bunch of weirdos scattered around the world, meeting once a week in a chat-room set up by a guy living somewhere in tundra
Congrats to Leonard, Sharon, and everybody involved

Mirka, well said!!! But it seems like we are on own tundra sometimes. Making this list is fantastic...but 100th??????
I had to listen to the #1 album and couldn't make it past the second song, barely made it through the 1st. Had to recall a certain quote from Marx about the masses.

One of our local papers (The Edmonton Sun) made up some "Best of the decade" lists, and our dear Leonard was crowned "Best Comeback of 2001" for Ten New Songs!
He also made the top-10 list for best live acts of the decade! (How could he not?)

Given all the noise and athletics and costumes and that seem to be the norm for "good" presently, it is remarkable that their album is even on the list!
Whether it is number 96 or number 11 or number 32 - Leonard's and Sharon's voices have been heard.
And - just because it is listed at 100 - that don't make it junk!
I'm happy they have been given recognition out there in the jungle.
Terrific album!!

Hi QueenofSolitude,
actually what I wrote about wasn't a figurative hyperbole
, it was very much what early members of the Forum experienced about 10-15 years ago.
At that time Leonard chose to step back and spend time on Mount Baldy, and a small number of his disciples scattered around the world found each other via Jarkko's web site. In those early years of Internet Forums didn't exist, and fans from around the world would meet weekly on-line using a server set up by Jarkko, to chat in real time.
Great that Sharon and Leonard got much needed wide recognition !

Thank you Mirka for that explanation. That's really, really beautiful, that need to come together through the words of this man. Very interesting to learn some early facts about this forum and how it all began.

Re: "Ten New Songs" One of the Decade's Best
I am a big Radiohead fan but to claim that "Kid A" is one of the best of the decade, along with its sister album "Amnesiac" (which is much better), is misplaced. If you did buy the album... listen to "How to Disappear Completely". THAT is a beautiful song. Of course, if you like more baritone voices, Thom Yorke probably won't be your thing.QueenofSolitude wrote:Mirka, well said!!! But it seems like we are on own tundra sometimes. Raindog,
I listened to "How To Disappear Completely", headphones on, and I really like his voice, it's very beautiful and melodic. The song flowed nicely but somehow I found it depressing, it brought me down. Maybe it's just not my style and I retract any negative comments I may have made due to the judgemental nature. Whatever music turns us on is beautiful music. The connection is all that's important. Lists are nonsense. It's that we individually feel our heart through someone elses song that is quintessential.
Thank you for sharing your song with me.

I think Ten New Songs is his finest album.
