The UK is calling...
Re: The UK is calling...
Ooooh the Royal Festival Hall would be great. I know it can seem a bit sterile on first inspection, but I've seen some amazing events there and the quality of the music and ambiance transformed the place into something quite magical. And if anyone can do that, we know Leonard can - let's face it, the man could sing in the middle of the M25 and make it the best place you'd ever been.
Would also love to see a return to l'Olympia in Paris - it's just a hop skip and a jump from the UK, and it was soooo intimate - probably the most intimate gig of the tour so far? I was in the front row and from there could have reached out and touched...(but restrained myself obviously - wouldn't want to find myself escorted off the premises!).
By way of a PS - pleeeeeeease keep A Thousand Kisses Deep in the programme as it changes - loving the evolving words. I cry like a baby every time - which is 7 times now in five cities - Montreal, London, Paris, Las Vegas, San Jose. (Actually Vegas is enough to make anyone cry - never again!)

Man, I'm fourteen right now, and they just don't sing like this anymore. I love Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake both endlessly more than this drivel that I get subjected to on the radio and with friends. It's a shame, I hope he comes to Florida on the 2010 World Tour. I'd love to see him.
and to the big chill!

With little birds tweeting away (on wires?) about a possible return to Ireland in April or May it must be time to bump this thread up again and remind everyone that Leonard will get a warm welcome here in the UK as well. I'll travel anywhere in the UK - scratch that, I'll travel anywhere full stop - but I would dearly love to see a show at one of the concert halls here in the Midlands - Birmingham Symphony Hall or Nottingham Royal Concert Hall maybe. Forget Liverpool (too much fighting) and London & Manchester (both have already had more than their fair share of shows). The Midlands has great venues, great crowds and great communications with other parts of the UK, Europe & the world. We have strong links with the Emerald Isle and a large Irish community too if that helps our cause ...

I saw Leonard in Sheffield in 76 when he played the City Hall, which has recently had a make-over. It's a nicely intimate, imposing and grand venue, and as Sheffield is pretty Midlandsy (often losing out to Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham) how about it Leonard?

Fully agree with something crazy.
I know the Irish are awesome, but there is an Irish heart beating in every Cohen fan.
Plus we also have sheep, beer, and if you go to Wales they've got harps too.

I suppose we have to consider the possibility that Leonard is still smarting over the amount of negative sh*t that bombarded him from UK over the Tel Aviv concert, and, frankly, if that is the case, I couldn't blame him.
What a strange comment, remote1, 'there is an Irish heart beating in every Cohen fan', have you been quaffing the Jamesons, or maybe the Guinness?

How about a small intimate local theatre in Frome? It also has an outdoor amphitheatre (memories of Wetbridge!) ...

Oh, come on Leonard, come back to Britain; it's so lovely here!
Why bother with South Africa when you could be having a fantastic time here?

Well, there is a club for Cohen fans in Bucharest; why not one in Frome?
