Every December, the songs of Leonard Cohen are presented to a jam-packed audience; by a diverse chorus of Newfoundland singers, songwriters, actors, filmmakers, writers and musicians. Well-known and not so well-known tunes penned by Canada’s poet-guru; have become a part of the holiday tradition for St. John’s, Newfoundland audiences longing to shake off the post Boxing Day Christmas blues!

This year’s Feast of Cohen at the Heart (Holy Heart of Mary) Theatre marks the tenth anniversary of the oldest North American festival presenting Leonard Cohen’s songbook. Over nineteen hundred people attended Feast of Cohen last December, on the heels of Leonard Cohen’s spectacular concerts at Holy Heart Theatre in May of 2008. Vicky Hynes, creator and host of Feast of Cohen; says this year’s show is bound to delight any Feast of Cohen fan, young or old!

The year’s tenth anniversary program brings the usual stalwarts to the stage, with a contingent of rising Newfoundland stars on the current Canadian national music scene. Feast of Cohen 2009 presents music performances by Host Vicky Hynes, Bryan Hennessey, Colleen Power, Sean Panting, Jill Porter, Des Walsh, Jenny Gear, Jim Fidler, Liz Solo, Joel Thomas Hynes, Amelia Curran, Mick Davis (The Novaks), Cherie Pynne and Tim Baker (Hey Rosetta) with The Beautiful Losers: Sandy Morris, Dave and Geoff Panting, George Morgan and Kelly Russell, our burning violin is returning to Feast of Cohen!
