Re: To the 2010 World Tour organizers: European Cities Ideas

Post by tomsakic »

In Summer-Fall 2008, Leonard couldn't make it to: Zagreb, Ljubljana, Moscow, Istanbul, Belgrade, Venice, South Africa, Japan and Latin America. There were simply too many cities interested and so small number of days in a year:) Then it was rumoured that there will be "Pacific Tour" which will include countries around the Pacific. Only Australia and New Zeland remained in the schedule, but the tour (in February 2009) was still titled The Pacific Tour. Then, in August, there was rumoured to be shows in Zagreb, Belgrade, Ljubljana, Venice, Moscow and Istanbul, those who didn't make it in 2008 itinerary. Again, there was no room, but Leonard broke his two-weeks break in early August, adding Istanbul, and Venice in the last moment (although it was rumoured to be postponed). Ljubljana and Zagreb were again rumoured for early September, but then only Belgrade made it to the schedule, but still they left one-week break for Leonard before mid-to-late September gigs in Spain. And now finally Zagreb, Ljubljana and Moscow are announced for March 2010. And after that, the tour convoy is, after touring the US in Fall 2009, and after the additional NINE dates in Europe as the opener, leaving Europe...

Seems to me that Mr. Cohen keeps his promises.:)

It has to be Dublin, for a week at least :>)
2008 Kilmainham (Dublin), Amsterdam
2009 O2 (Dublin), Nimes
2010 Lissadell (Sligo),
2012 Kilmainham (Dublin)
2013 Bercy (Paris), O2 Dublin
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard

Reading between the lines of Tom's posts, sounds quite promising for Japan! ;-)

Thanks for the reminder about the postponed dates from previous tours Tom. However, the one thing I am very surprised at is that there is no Valencia show. Having travelled as far as Marseille, why are they not then continuing on into Spain to fulfill a moral obligation to fans who had tickets for the one genuinely cancelled show? I ask not for myself (we are unlikely to be going back in the near future) but for all those Spanish fans who were so excited before the aborted show and so upset - if totally understanding - after it. I always thought a desire to return to Valenica would be part of the reason for any dates in Western Europe in 2010, not 6 shows in France. Oh well, I suppose there will be good reasons ...

So South Africa, Latin America, Japan then... The US was supposedly "final", but there was no word on Canada. Leonard didn't play a show in Montreal since June 2008 (during which time New York was graced with three separate visits). Can I still dream? Can I still hope?? I think I can...

Yes - well there is Ottawa - the National Arts Centre where they appeared last May - just prior to the Philadelphia show. Ottawa is almost due north of Philadelphia - so - actually - that should work out well.

So based on the response here it looks like some Canadian dates will be inevitable!

Yeah, dear 2010 tour organizers, so far the undoubtedly most vocal people on this forum are calling for UK, Ireland, and Canada! Please take note. ;-)
