They were passing to me when I thought, I just can’t skate on
And they brought me puck handling and later they brought me this song

Well I've been caught on the boards and I think I can see how you're pinned
When you're not playing fairly, the referee tells you you've sinned

They fell down beside me, I made my confession to them
They smacked both my eyes, I grabbed their shirt by the hem
If your life is a battle the referees stop and condemn
They’ll take point for two minutes and score with a sure slapshot gem

When I left they were skating, I hope you run into them soon
Don't turn out the lights, on the ice there isn’t much room
And you won't make me jealous if I hear that you score every night
We weren't teammates like that and besides it would still be all right

Hakeedude, I loved your poem and and sang along in my head. Fabulous! I really miss Canadian Hockey and son Leonard won't take me. The way the NHL divisions are set up, the Toronto Maple Leafs don't often play here in Los Angeles. And when they do, he goes with another ex-pat Canadian. It's their ritual. I offered to buy my own ticket and asked for a ride. All I got was a withering look. Ah, these Canadian Hockey rituals...

It was fun for me too, to laugh with your poem!

My two sons and Hubby are not Leonard fans but I'm sure they'd like this hockey song.

I have to admit that my son made a paper airplane of the lyrics and flew it onstage during intermission last night in Columbus... It got put on the table with the rest of the Leonard gifts.

And wow-wotta concert! I've waited 40 years for that!
