Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Kush and Steven, sure as everything leads back to the beginning of nyc live, I will return here. Til then, it is fitting to recount my favourite memory from the walking trip in this thread. On Sunday morning I went for a walk in the sea to watch the sun rise over the mountains. It brought to mind that Kiri TK video you posted, K (see the sunrise at .30), and the song along with it. Perfect.
Those Birth of the Blues lyrics are stunning. You are the source of some of the most amazing music and words I have ever encountered. No exaggeration.
ps Some kind of record of the moment before the sun appreared as I was in the sea:

nice pic Diane and no doubt you enjoyed the mountains. But when I read the above I thought the pic would be of you walking on water and was quite intrigued. On Sunday morning I went for a walk in the sea to watch the sun rise over the mountains.
Glad you liked Birth of the Blues lyrics, I like them too. will check out the :30 s on Kiri video.
Steven - your mentioning Archie Bunker brought back some memories...in college me and a roommate used to go to the laundry room late at night to study and watch reruns of old sitcoms (yes they had cable TV in the laundry room! and a table with high chairs where we could study or watch TV while doing laundry or not doing laundry). Archie Bunker was a favorite.
In an earlier post you also mentioned chocolate - reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine is eating a chocolate bar with knife and fork.

Kush,
I loved that Archie Bunker series. It was up there, for me, with The Honeymooners. Now that you mentioned
it, I do recall Elaine eating a chocolate bar with knife and fork on Seinfeld. Probably saw every Archie
Bunker episode. Saw every Honeymooners episode (including a couple of "lost" ones). Saw every
Seinfeld episode, but didn't start watching it for a couple of years after it first ran. I never enjoyed
messie-eating kinds of foods: crabs that need mallets for disassembling, fajitas, etc. Cooking
those things doesn't bother me. Probably has to do with having seen and been dismayed by others' less
than pretty eating ways.

Steven,
Seinfeld and StarTrek TNG were my favorites and I think I have seen every episode. In fact for a while I considered myself an extended member of the crew of the Enterprise - not a very healthy obsession
.
I hadnt seen any of Archie Bunker in ages - possibly the most endearing bigot in history. Here are a couple of clips:
on the Chinese

I usually try to get lobster at chinese buffet places with the special mallet or whatever that you use to disassemble them - yes the table is a mess and its a lot of hard work but when the lobster is cooked just right its worth it.I never enjoyed

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Hi Kush,
I wish now that I'd have given Star Trek a chance when I was a kid (and never watched the
latter TNG). Some kids obssessed with the original series turned me off from giving it a fair chance,
I suspect. You probably weren't in that ilk of Enterprise crew member.
Enjoyed the Archie Bunker clips. Despite Archie's characater foibles, he and the other core characters,
were endearing. Glad that Diane and others that might not be familiar with this American TV
classic sitcom can see the clips too.
Lobster is pretty neat eating compared to crabs ("softshells" excluded). The Eastern Shore of Maryland
has some places where they boil them with a traditional, native mixture of spices and herbs (this
came up earlier in this thread), and serve them on newspapers, whereupon customers mallet them
apart.

Happy 60th birthday to Bruce Springsteen.
Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Steven you beat me to it! I heard it on the radio today from Steve Wright. He played Born in the USA. Obviously you read this thread, Bruce, so Happy Birthday sweet sixty:-) Don't ever stop.
Haha, funny Archie Bunker, never seen him. I will be back here later. I hope you are ready for Alf Garnett!

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
Well I have been in one of those dreamy reflective moods tonight so will come back to other things. Been listening to side two of NYC live over and again, as it's Bruce's birthday. It's the only recording I have of Land of Hope and Dreams I realise. Another very good song that I have paid little attention to in the past.
Star Trek:-) I am not a natural science fiction fan (and I thought Star Wars was all special effects and no story) but Star Trek always seemed to be about the meaning of life to me. Spock was an early hero (he used to look a bit like LC, when you think about it). The Original series was part of my childhood. Also enjoyed the movies, and was really cut up when Spock died. The Voyage Home was very funny. Didn't see so much of TNG and onwards. Beam me up.
Hi Musicmania:-) Excellent that you saw Bruce and Leonard close together. What are you favourite Springsteen albums or songs and why? You'll have to excuse us but we seem to go off topic a bit in this thread from time to time.

Hi Musicmania,
Well, you caught two of the most brilliant singers/songwriters/performers of modern day music.

Re: Bruce Springsteen new albúm !
I did not watch much of the original Star Trek but was reporting for duty to Captain Picard all through the TNG series. I agree with Diane the scenarios set up were really very thought provoking ones and searching for the meaning of life perhaps. In the next millenium I think this series will become ancient wisdom of old.
Diane....British sitcoms are quite popular here and I used to watch a few of them. Even bought the DVD series of a couple. Dont remember Alf Garnett though.
Forgot Springsteen's 60th was around the corner (unfortunately I was hearing John Hiatt on Springsteen's birthday). To be sure, most of the time I have trouble remembering friends and family members birthdays so celebrity ones are not really up there on the priority list. No matter, I shall make it up by hearing some Springsteen this weekend. Yes live in NYC is a great one to celebrate with!

Yes I used to get lobster in seaside bars on eastern shore of Long Island. Even attended a Native-American powvow, Shinnecock Indian Reservation on the South Shore but dont remember lobster being on the menu (also visited Crow Indian Reservation in Wyoming but thats another story for another time).Lobster is pretty neat eating compared to crabs ("softshells" excluded). Good evening Kush and Steven (and musicmania and whoever else).
I agree with what you were both saying earlier about not wanting to feel pressured to reply to posts unless you have the time or inclination. It's no problem to respond after two minutes or two months or not at all as far as I am concerned. I'm still here even when I'm not here.
My son also reports to Cpt Picard. I am loyal to Kirk. Spock was a highly insightful Vulcan: "In accepting the inevitable, one finds peace." Btw I secretly enjoyed that Star Trekkin song that came out about ten years ago. There's Clingons on the starboard bow...it's life Jim, but not as we know it... you cannae change the laws of physics etc.
I have never seen Seinfield although I think it has been on over here, or maybe I have just heard the name a lot. The 70's and 80's was the golden age of sitcoms over here. Only Fools and Horses was the best, imo, plus Fawtly Towers. Here is our most famous sitcom bigot, Alf Garnett (according to wikipedia, your Archie Bunker was based on him). I debated with myself whether to post these links Kush, aware of your Indian ethnicity, and with all the racial comments and stereotypes in this. But as it's satire and very funny, I think you will enjoy. By today's standards though this is very un-PC!

My Nan (grandmother) had a touch of Alf Garnett about her, as many people did 30/40 years ago (and some still do of course).
How excellent. There is a guy called Ray Mears on TV here who does bushcraft and survival programs. He was on an Indian reservation recently in Canada learning how to make a birch bark canoe, in the traditional way, with everything judged by eye and cut by hand. That kind of thing fascinates the hell out of me.
Short Bruce trip is over for me and I am relishing a re-visit after some time to No Quarter Unledded live album by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant which is one of my top ten ever albums. It ends with the brilliant Kashmir, originally from Led Zep's Physical Graffiti album which Robert Plant wrote while driving through the Sahara in Morocco, and has nothing to do with Kashmir other than maybe that's where he thought he would finish up if he kept driving!

I most definately did! I'd seen Brucie before but it was my first time seeing Leonard & how amazing that gig wasSteven wrote:Hi Musicmania,

How to begin to answer your question Diane??????? I love all Brucies music & have most of his 20+ albums & I'm not sure if I could pick one favourite from them all. My favourite Springsteen song however is No Surrender. I love the story of that song. My favourite lyric though is from I'm on Fire, At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet and a freight train running through the middle of my head. Some of the lyrics of that song are a little dodgy though. Other favourites include Dancing in the Dark, Brilliant Disguise, Badlands, My Hometown, The River, Devils and Dust... This list could go on forever.
I recently discovered that my mp3 player keeps a list of my top 20 played songs & Brucie takes up the top 4 with 5 more appearances (No Surrender tops that list). Leonard has positions 5 and 6 with Hallelujah and So long Marianne with 4 more positions. ALL the top ten are from Brucie and Len! My all time favourite band Bon Jovi only manages 3 songs. It made interesting reading when I first discovered it. Considering I've around 1800 songs on my MP3 player to choose from shows how much these two artists have mean't to me this year
