Judy Collins Sings Leonard Cohen

Post by jarkko »

According to some information I've got Judy Collins is going
to release her Cohen tribute this year - it will be a collection
of Leonard’s songs that Judy has recorded over the years!

Excellent :D ! I've always liked Judy's voice. This will also have to bring even more awareness of Leonard to music lovers. Even though Judy is a 'sixties' person, and most of those who know her, know of Leonard, as well; it's still bound to cross over and draw new people to Leonard.

Judy's album will be released on August 31.

This is from http://www.billboard.com:

"Judy Collins has newly recorded three Leonard Cohen songs for an upcoming compilation of her interpretations of his work, due Aug. 31 from Elektra/Rhino. "Judy Collins Sings Leonard Cohen: Democracy" also features 14 of the iconic poet/novelist's songs as interpreted over the years by the veteran folk artist.

New songs in the collection are "Night Comes On," "A Thousand Kisses Deep" and the title track, "Democracy." Also included is a live version of "Song of Bernadette," and such cuts as "Take This Longing" and "Bird on a Wire."

Collins first covered Cohen on her 1966 album "In My Life," where she included versions of his "Suzanne" and "Dress Rehearsal Rag," which are both offered on the new collection.

Thanks for posting this, Jarkko :D !

This is really excellent timing on its release 8) . I hope reviews of it will mention Leonard's "to be released next month ~ Dear Heather" ~ Judy's is like a natural heralding of Leonard's :D .

Ideal timing for me. I can get Judy Collin's tribute album for my birthday on August 31, and "Dear Heather" for my wife's birthday which is late September. Good stuff!
