Two Months Later

Post by Boss »

Early spring
It is still cold
I hold the wind
in my fingertips
It cannot escape

They took Buddy
Said he’d ‘done
his dash’
Injected him
I held his head

I keep two tins
for memory’s sake
His collar and lead
purple bowl
and simple truth

One that knew thunder
and smell of urine
Fear of grown men
taste of chocolate
and the beach

A truth more potent
than empty magazines
a lying poet
Gordon Brown
an internet

It knew not of Hiroshima
fad diets @ $9.99
red Corvettes
Isaiah’s ramblings
or Paris Hilton

It didn’t pretend to be
better than it was
It didn’t fake it
like many of us –
it didn’t have to

It was prehistoric
wild, free, sane
Open to fire we
expertly extinguish
in arrogance
'In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer' - Albert Camus

.. hi.. I like reading this a lot.. it's touching without sentimentality.. it feels solid somehow, like the truth it's speaking of..

I love..

.. could it be "the smell of urine" though?.. I keep reading it as "the"..

.. good to see your writing again..

A good read. Having put down a cat who had been a buddy for 18 years recently resonates well and truly for me.

Hello Boss,

Sorry that you lost Buddy. Your poem is more than a memorial; it's a reminder of how hard it is to see what is worthwhile, while we constantly distract ourselves with trivia.

Seems to me truth lives in your poems too Boss, I always feel sobered after reading them...
