Am I Talking Rubbish, Rubbish, Rubbish

Post by Ben Kelly »

Am I Talking Rubbish, Rubbish Rubbish?
(Soliloquy from DOY)

Ammonia, chloride and sulphur dioxide
Methane and Butane and Carbon monoxide
Pesticide, weed killer and even rat poison
Rubbish heaps, slag heaps ever more pollution
Broken glass bottles on beaches of crude oil
Nature’s environment, man loves to spoil
Broken bricks and little bits, like plastic bags
Dustbins and empty tins, litter louts at large
Old newspapers rotting around old rusty cars
Ugly sites and nasty smells just economic scars
Battlefield were green fields are now acrid mud
Nothing now lives in water without soapsuds
Dump nuclear waste in someone else’s garden
Geo-political semantics excuse their industrial friends
Man the consumer is a giant waste machine
Untidy and dirty when Mother Nature’s so clean
What am I leaving, what do you see?
People show some pride, this shouldn't be
But am I talking rubbish
Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish?

Soiling ourselves in our lazy enviroment
there's a toilet there, who gives a shit
some other bastard can clean it up
our kids tomorrow may be glowing
the bacterias and nitrates are sown
with the dirty waste of our own filth
and radium impregnated soil of our doom
does rain and precipate into our gloom
tampers with the babies in the womb
and hasten the erection of our tomb
Georges

Ben you wrote a nice piece on waste, which inspired me.

Images from the film "Winged Migration," as well as others, came to mind when I read this, Ben. Scenes from my own, real life, as well. Excellent piece. I love it! It would be a great inclusion for any environmental gathering. Great follow-up, too, Georges.

George

I tried to keep it simple and not too technical as the longer technical names tend to kill the musical scanning of the piece.

Cheers
