The Monkey and a plywood violin
Re: The Monkey and a plywood violin
Has Fred been placed in a foster home for the R&R respite period before the band leaves for Europe?

Re: The Monkey and a plywood violin
Well, he could be laying on the beach in Malibu and sipping banana daquiris (sorry Mary...). Or, he could be visiting relatives who just arrived in a shipment from China bound for dollar stores. Or, he could have found a palm tree and is hidden at the top while he lobs little coconuts at passersby. Or, he could be sitting quietly in a corner of a recording studio listening to songs that we may not hear for months and months....
Or...oh heck, we just miss you Fred.

Oh you two Diana and Lizzy!
Fred - you don't show your face here, I know your passport is in order, so I just bought tickets for Barcelona. See what extremes I go to in the hope I will see you

Re: The Monkey and a plywood violin
I can guess why we haven't seen anything of Fred for such a long time ... he's been serenading Cinderella with his plywood violin.

I wonder if Cinderella, who was born in 1976, is the real monkey? Was another gift she was given perhaps a toy violin ??

Re: The Monkey and a plywood violin
Hi Hydriot,
Cinderella is Lorca's monkey! How wonderful, and thanks SO much for sharing. Personally I think Fred is a tad cuter than Cinderella; however, she is a little older and outward looks are not what matter. "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." She does appear to be quite committed to causes and that is impressive.
So perhaps indeed Fred has been with Cinderella, and if so, I hope they have been very happy!
Of course, he must part in a few days and head to Europe, but perhaps their relationship might continue in the future.
Love you Fred,
Aunt Di xoxoxoxo

Re: The Monkey and a plywood violin
Hydriot, I can state unequivocally, this is not Fred. And, I am unanimous in this
. A mother can always recognize her child
. Although, this monkey may be Henry, Fred's cousin, who is also in the music business.
You're right Diana, Fred is much cuter (and cleaner).
Kindest regards,
Mary

Re: The Monkey and a plywood violin
I have never suggested Cinderella is Fred. I have only suggested that the original lines in the song may have been prompted by a Christmas parcel turning up for Lorca containing Cinderella (...and a toy violin?)MaryB wrote:Hydriot, I can state unequivocally, this is not Fred.

Re: The Monkey and a plywood violin
Hydriot,
What a delightful idea! That perhaps somehow Lorca's little stuffed monkey (in childhood) "may" have given rise to the idea of the "monkey and a plywood violin"! Who knows. And, as they say, "the rest is history"!
Very interesting.....

Re: The Monkey and a plywood violin
Hydriot,
How did I screw that up so badly? I am so sorry
! Duh, I finally got it straight
.
Hydriot, you and Diana may be onto something. Although the line is used sarcastically (IMHO), Fred and violin were gifted as a tribute to LC's sense of humor. Even though Cinderella appears to be well-loved and much used, who's to say that she was not the inspiration (maybe subconsciously) for that particular line.
Kindest regards,
Mary
(P.S. Thank you for that cute link - what a clever video! Do you notice any resemblance between Cinderella and Fred
?)

I'll take my binoculars to the concert in Berlin tomorrow and search for Fred and his friends. Hope it doesn't distract me too much from the music ...
