True Son of Quebec
True Son of Quebec
A true son of Quebec
is who I am
sent out to speak
this foreign language
and forgetting my own
traveling freely
among you protesters
Silent for so long
as you waited
to hear
the voice of my heart
I speak now
and I call to you
to come and know
the heart of Quebec
to sit with us by still lakes
among rolling hills
to match the beauty
of northern lights
with full moons
to travel with us
along the line
that now goes
far past St. Jovite
Let us tell you the stories
of the Blessed Virgin
Our Lady of the Harbour
Come and love this Quebec
Let us tell you
about our love affair
with the natives
of the land
we occupied
Watch us dance
dances old and new
and have our drinks
in outdoor cafés
Our songs are for you
to tell you of splendor
and the sweet love
between a boy and a girl
and love us
we need to hear your voice
we need to hear
how you like the sound
of the way we pronounce R
make us proud once again
of the language of our mother
that we so often trash
we are growing tired
of just waving flags
and hearing from leaders
with their words
filled with fear
Let me tell you
of your language
that was so hard
for me to speak
the way you speak
of the love you have
It was so very tricky
for me to say it
the way you do
when I did
on that fateful night
it needed to be right
there in front of me
spelled out in my mind
"I love you"
I spoke those words
and you surrounded
me with rings of fire
for which i am grateful
but when you asked me to
explain what I was meaning
I was at a loss for words
In french we say
Je t'aime
We place the
I and the you together
and then there is love
you english
are too distant
and your poets struggle
to say it right
Bob Dylan sings
"The love I had for you
was never my own"
Leonard Cohen sings
"I am not the one who loves
It is love that seizes me"
Come and let us
work on it together
compare notes
we need each other's
languages and history
Come quickly
there are many here
looking right in my face
and calling me traitor
(this needs a lot more work but today is our national holiday in Quebec and wanted to spit this out in time)

Re: True Son of Quebec

I just had an earlier glitch <grin> and needed my own computer.
mon frère comment je t'aime toi
bien que nous soyons si différents
vous dans votre bleu et blanc
Je dans mon blanc et rouge
Je vous aime près de moi
Je sans vous, est seulement je
Bien amicalement,
your sister one province over
(sorry for the bad grammar)
I think this part is an especially nice homage to your home.to sit with us by still lakes

Quebec is very unique and very beautiful, how lucky we are to have you as part of Canada.
Bonne fête Québec!
I hope your sky is well lit tonight.
Re: True Son of Quebec
Thank you Cate
for how nicely you entwined our english and french hearts. The real heart does have both a red and a blue color. I have often wondered how Leonard entwined the two hearts that he uses for his symbol but now i see that in the mind they are already entwined and it is just a matter of the word being made into flesh.
Today the parade passed by my door and at the end of the parade were those chanting for independence and for only one language - french. They chanted in french of course. I showed my poem to my french friends and they said they liked it much more than the chants.
I had another small verse about standing proud with my french heart on, but decided against it as it made me blush when it was explained to me how that might be heard and besides a french musician who i am writing a song with said we might be able to use it for the song we are writing about heading toward the wrinkled and slick.

Wrinkled is fine jack, slick – not so much. Slick works for babies and dominatrixes, but could be synonym for 'slimy' in wrinkled old men.
You're neither wrinkled or old now, and you'll never be slimy!
Happy Quebec Day!

Happy QC Day....to Mickey_One QC, wherever you are. We all miss you.
Re: True Son of Quebec
It must have been my mentioning the love affair between the french and the natives which provoked this humble confession. You had already confessed to that though and what is now needed is more information that you might be in a unique position to give.Lion of Lions wrote:Happy QC Day....to Mickey_One QC, wherever you are. What went wrong between your Queen and the natives here? They loved her so much and believed her when she promised that they would always be treated like they were her children. Why were their children dragged from their homes and physically and sexually abused and thought to hate their own language and customs? I have been out among the english and I have gone to visit the reservations and see that there are some who still place tobacco under trees looking for answers.
You might not have all the answers but you can tell some of the part the lawyers played. As a small burden of love I am currently going through the 800 pages of Human Action by Ludwig Von Mises and that might give me some answers but there are others besides myself who may need to know what you can tell. Please do begin your story for whoever might be needing to hear it.

Are you trying to pass something on to me? Maybe you better put me back on that list.

do pay attention. I wrote a few days ago that I will continue to crit your "writing" until I become, once again, more bored than horrified at your efforts.Jack wrote

the jingle you wrote about "daughter" and "water" was a worthy contender for this week's "diamond under the knees" award.
I'm not presently trying to pass anything on to you, but if I happen to contract Swine Flu you will be the first to know.
Re: True Son of Quebec
Thanks but I might not be needing it. A good friend told me the other day that I seem to be love sick and that it suits me. So I might not be needing that swine flu.Lion of Lions wrote: I'm not presently trying to pass anything on to you, but if I happen to contract Swine Flu you will be the first to know.

one of the best friends of my younger daughter contracted Swine Flu two days ago. She had been with Tori last weekend
my elder daughter, Rikki, came back from the Glastonbury Festival on Sunday complaining of terrible stomach problems and other symptoms. one of her friends who shared her tent has since gone down with Swine Flu. Rikki went to the Doctor today, no Swine Flu, medium hooray, but she has type 1 diabetes, massive BOO. I reassured her she will need to inject only for the rest of her life.
this parent thing is quite tricky sometimes...

Hope your daughter is ok Lion, that diabetes is a bummer. My sister has it and it's not a walk in the park by any means.

thanks Tinds. She is staying overnight in the Hospital and meets the Diabetes Team tomorrow (that sounds like the Ben Stiller film but even less fun).

I am scared. I have my own son who you seem to want to pass something on to. Don't be coming around. You will be entering my wife's territory and she can make me do some very crazy things.get scared...
