Would love to own a copy if the BBC ever re-release it on DVD.

Evie, I have a copy of "Songs from the Life of Leonard Cohen" on VHS video. I can remember buying it all those years ago and watching it over and over again and any visitors who came to the house were forced to watched it! To be honest, because I dont use videos anymore, I forgot I had it so when I read your post I went hunting the house for it! Have just spent the last half hour looking and have eventually found it - it had fallen behind my entertainment system.

Like many of you here, am looking forward to 9.00 p.m. tonight to settle down and watch my man on BBC4.

Not long now! I am so looking forward to tonight. It is not so long ago all we had were our few cds/videos to watch to think of Leonard, but now look at the wealth of magic - seeing him live, progs on the Beeb, progs on the radio, yummie.
I have chilled my bottle of rose, but I might break open some champers tonight instead :D ;-)

Really looking forward to tonight as well, I have finally had the tv aerial fixed so can enjoy a crystal clear view of Leonard :D Wine is chilling in the fridge and the phone will be unplugged  I'm intrigued as to where the promised clips from 1973 are from (or are they part of the Songs From a Life docu? I thought that was later, but am probably wrong). Not long till all is revealed I suppose...

Clips from 1973 liable to be in all or any except Live in London.

21:00 Leonard Cohen Live in London
22:00 Omnibus (which is the Leonard Cohen - Songs from a Life bio)
23:10 What Leonard Cohen Did for Me (performers who have been influenced by LC, possibly clips in this too)
23:40 Flight of the Conchords (nothing to do with Leonard)
00:10 Sounds of the Sixties (including music of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen)

The Omnibus 'Songs from a Life' is wonderful. I saw it years ago and more recently watched all the sections on YouTube via a link on the forum. Those touching pictures of Leonard, Julie and Perla visiting his home in Hydra and him standing at the window from which he says he watched the bird on the wire and then wrote the song.

Would love to own a copy if the BBC ever re-release it on DVD.
I know: I have a VHS tape of it. The BBC might release it on DVD now. :-)

Update: I'm a bit confused by the fact that the Radio Times says of Songs from My Life, 'Portrait of Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard Cohen, originally recorded in 1973. Featuring interviews, archive film and live performances from London, Paris, Athens and New York.' The VHS tape I have is entitled Songs from the Life of Leonard Cohen and the prog was broadcast and recorded, I believe, in 1988, at the time of the release of I'm Your Man. Thought we might be talking about two different progs, but just looked at the length of the tape - 70 mins - and that's the length of the BBC4 prog tonight, so it's probably that one and I think the Radio Times blurb is misleading.

23:10 What Leonard Cohen Did for Me

This is a repeat from 2004 as far as I remember. Didn't think it was that great at the time - bit sycophantic

Original thread about this programme, when it was first broadcasted, is at viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3068

I only recall the moment when Kathryn Williams says she wanna shag Leonard Cohen (but he's too old and would die, or what??).

What's going on? Not on only does my freeview guide say these programmes are part of.. wait for it.. the 'Neil Young Night', they're showing the wrong documentary - well, it's not Songs from My Life: 'Music and interviews from the 1973 world tour'. Much as I like 1988's Songs from the life of Leonard Cohen, I've already got it. No doubt more cock-ups are imminent.

Well, as I suspected, they for some reason thought the 1988 documentary was about 1973!? Did no-one pop the tape in before they decided to play it - about 30 seconds in it says 1988! I was wondering what this mystery 1973 show was going to be  Epic fail BBC! Looks like they maybe got confused with Bird on a Wire (even though that's a bit earlier).

Yeah, I was all disappointed with that one. I think the continuity lady was just reading what had been printed in tv guides...dear me....

and guess what....the digital programme info for each programme stated each one as being part of Neil Young night!!!!!!!
Just what do I pay my licence fee for???

Having said that.... a very pleasant way to spend a Friday evening. I know I'd seen each one before but good to have them all together.
I wonder how many tuned in out of curiosity who haven't encountered Leonard before?

Good to see Lizzie and Peter again in the third programme.

hey don't knock it - it was fabulous to see it again especially the snatches of John Bilezikian and a very youthful Bob Metzger.

I must dig out the Austen video, and Jenny sings Lenny, and a million others :D Must go!
