one ant to another
one ant to another
i've been hauling dirt all day
i think i'll take a rest
stop,you!i have something to say
but ants must not rest
we wont be tolerated
as is, many think us a pest!
now hear,you scoundrel you mule
i've been bothered,day and night
were we to find time for school
we'd know we best all in might
no you listen you lazy friend
i know two things,is all
the equalizer and discombobulater
i will explain,toyounowratherthenlater
the equalizer refrains and trains
he grows red tomatoes every time
the discombobulater runs amuck
and crayons pictures out of line
when one is ill things go nuts
when one is shrill we go nuts
(because we have great hearing)
so put that sand-thing on your back
and march!i say!the colony you cause lack!
i will! i will! no refrain! no refrain!
i'll do the thing,i'll carry it this way
i'll go in circles and circles too
just to get away from you!

i never had an ant farm, but a facination for ants, yes.i would watch them, for timeless hours.i was brought up in a home without a t.v.and my entertainment was simple.i do remember seeing in the science museum a omni show about them, and i think this sparked my interest.we did have a lady bug farm that my sister invented.a jar, plus many beautiful lady bugs.
those were the days.......

Yes, Elazar....takes me back to the ants, ladybugs, fireflies, crickets, grasshoppers, tadpoles, and worms. Love them all, and played with them all. The ants were fascinating to watch how they carried things so much larger and heavier than themselves. Being raised in that fashion [no TV] is not a disfavour to a child.
my mom is a visionary.she didnt allow my sisters to have barbies either.
she didnt believe in dumping us over for the day
so untill we entered school, she made a makeshift daycare-like
group at our home.very "hands-on" childhood.i really am gratefull to her.
i grew up in minnesota, and the neighborhood togetherness was great.
the mississippi river was a 10 minute walk.minihaha falls wasnt far either.
my grandfather, may he live and be well, gave me a table aquarium at 8.
i had parrakeets at 10.life was good.

Good grief
, I've just read the first page and several thoughts are coming at me, all at once:
(1) I feel a poem coming on from Georges
(2) Ants will forever be lauded
(3) We are about to be compared to an ant colony by someone here
(4) Ants amaze me now, even more than they ever have,
and I've read only the first page of this site.
Thanks for this link, Elazar. Truly amazing creatures, they are. Did you ever dream your poem could be so accurate? I wonder how some of the ant colloquialisms go. What with Yankee ants, New Yorker ants, Midwest ants [the ones with the serious work ethic], cowboy ants, surfer ants, Southern Belle ants, redneck ants, cracker ants, auntie ants ~ who'd'uh thunk?
