Some media rumors today about Zagreb as well - any hints to drop?
Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
Nothing new to announce right now, but I am sure there will be more after all details have been fixed. No idea about the locations yet.

Zagreb and/or Ljubljana would still seem to be possible between 4 and 12 September then but I haven't heard any rumours!mar54 wrote:Some media rumors today about Zagreb as well - any hints to drop?

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
There was a text from a few days ago which I can't find now, but this one also speaks of "media rumors":
http://www.soundguardian.com/soundguard ... -beogradu/
This one here, however, states that Zagreb is NOT going to happen:
http://www.glas-slavonije.hr/mvijest.as ... JESTI=4919
Neither seems particularly convincing though...

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
I had local info (in Zagreb, before I went to Krakow in mid-April) that September 5th was mentioned as the possible date. It is already FOURTH agency who tried to bring LC to Croatia in last couple of years so it's not true that nobody even tried; quite the opposite. Now it's obvious that it can't happen between Budapest (31.8.), Belgrade (2.9.) and Bucharest (4.9.) and that date is out of the game now. Of course, there's free week between Bucharest and Spain, but that would mean detour back (and Zagreb is, as you know, on the line of highways Bratislava-Prague-Budapest-Belgrade-Bucharest). And of course, a whole week after Venice is empty.... and Ljubljana and Zagreb are few hours of driving from there.

That doesn't take account of Istanbul (now confirmed for 5-6 August) though I suppose it still leaves some days for a show or two to be slotted in on the way back to Spain.
I hope Ljubljana and/or Zagreb happen but it seems quite incredible to me that shows are now being scheduled in to the periods which were previously designated as breaks. The whole of April and May are taken up with the North American tour then there is barely a month off before they are launching in to 3 month a pan-European tour, with maybe more dates to follow in October (based on Leonard's comments in the CBC interview + some band member comments). Leonard's energy on stage seems phenomenal but I do worry that they might all begin to get a bit jaded towards the end.

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
Wendy, you're right, I was using the tour itinerary from The Files, Istanbul is not there yet and I totally forgot about it. So even those days are now taken.
It seems that LC's energy is excellent, yeas, and he obviously doesn't need long breaks.
I read also about possible new US tour, but maybe they didn't mean October immediately, more like November?
Logistically, the show has to go on - longer break means that maybe some people can't go back to the road (that includes 50 or more people on board, not only band members). So it's like a traveling show - they will go on as long there's public demand which economically will pay out.
Of course I agree with you partially, maybe - after the live DVD - it's about the time to change a setlist a little bit.
Roscoe also mentioned that "who knows, there could even be 2010 tour after new album comes out".

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
I traced that "media rumour": http://www.tportal.hr/showtime/glazba/1 ... Cohen.html (published May 5)
It says that Leonard Cohen is performing in Belgrade on September 2, so it's logical to expect that he will now any day announce the show in Zagreb.
Of course, if the so-called "media" would look at his tour itinerary, it's obvious he can't make it as he needs two days from Budapest to Belgrade, and on 4th he's already in Bucharest, so no time or place for Zagreb I'm afraid, at least not tied to the Belgrade show.

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
Hi guys,
this morning a ticket agency here announced a LC show in Ljubljana on 1 Sept:
Reliable sources have confirmed that Leonard Cohen will perform in Ljubljana's Hala Tivoli.
The show is part of his World Tour '09 and will take place in Ljubljana on 1 Sept 2009. Tickets go on sale on 20 May 2009, prices to be confirmed.)
This is from http://www.vstopnice.com/. I'm having some unpleasant flashbacks back to last year when these same guys also announced a LC show in Ljubljana which then never happened. Looking at the other dates, I guess it fits in the tour schedule and the guy from Vstopnice.com is very confident about it ...

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
The local news about Ljubljana is still premature, the date is tentative and the concert is not confirmed. Let's see what happens.

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
has he ever performed for 3 nights in a row in 3 different cities since the tour started last year?
hopefully he'll play in ljubljana but that date seems somewhat unlikely

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
Yeah that's what I was afraid of
Thanks for the replies. I wish they wouldn't get me all excited with these premature announcements that come to nothing in the end. Hopefully I can make it to the show in Austria, at least!

Re: Any concert in the Balkans?
Croatian newspapers Slobodna Dalmacija: http://www.slobodnadalmacija.hr/Spektak ... fault.aspx
Title reads: "The Golden Voice can finally be heard near us: Cohen is coming to the neighborhood" while lead sentence says: "One of the most beloved world singer-songwriters is coming to the Balkans". The article announces the show in Belgrade, whose representative says it's one the best selling events in recent history of Serbia, adding that tickets are 2900-3900 dinars, or c. 300 Croatian Kunas. That's very cheap! (Somebody in Venice told me it's one of the cheapest show - it's 40 Euros.) The last sentence announces shows in Wiesen and Venice also (as they're very near to Croatia.)
VERY interesting fact is that the Belgrade Arena has 20,000 seats but the article claims it was "adopted" to "only" 8,000 for events like Leonard Cohen concert!

Boem i redovnik
Iako je zasigurno malo onih koji ne znaju za autora “Suzanne”, “Dance Me To The End Of Love”, “First We Take Manhattan”, “In My Secret Life”, “Ain’t No Cure For Love”, “A Thousand Kisses Deep”, “Hallelujah”..., ipak podsjetimo: Leonard Cohen 74-godišnji je pjesnik, kantautor i romanopisac, prorok i mistik, Židov rođen u Montrealu u Kanadi, boem, lutalica i budistički redovnik...
