I have a Mac and was having a similar question. First you must make sure to download the podcast as an mp3 (where you click on the NPR page and then "Podcasts" in the top right and then "download latest show" and then mp3/4"). If you just download the podcast from Itunes as a "podcast": I don't think you will be able to separate the songs.

Then, you can cut the show into individuals mp3's through your I-Tunes itself. What you do is once you have the full NPR mp3, hit "Info" (Apple-I) to get its properties. Then go to "Options" which allows you to choose the start time and stop time. For example, if you know that Chelsea Hotel starts at 13:45 and ends at 17:45, you put those as your start and stop times. And then I-Tunes allows you to save that selection as its own mp3. Then rename the new mp3 file for the song. Voila! That's how I did it.

I hope this helps.

Quick question:
I just downloaded bootleg - it's FM recording of whole broadcast, with radio DJ's comments and some radio ads.

I am wondering is the direct podcast download from the NPR site in better quality of mp3 than FM recording (which is in flac files)?

Is the FM recording the full show? I was wondering if anyone knew how to get a copy of the full show, because some of my high lites, like Who By Fire? aren't on NPR.....

No, the same tracklist from the NPR website (plus commentary and ads). 72 minutes.

Leonard Cohen
Beacon Theatre
New York, NY, USA
2009-02-19

FM > iMic > Sound Forge 9 > Audacity > Flac frontend

This is a very good FM recording. Aired Feb. 27, 2009 on WFUV-FM in New York.
Excerpts - not the full show. Edited out some DJ chatter and station spots.
Should do until something better shows up. Samples attached. Enjoy.

01. [5:34] Dance Me To The End Of Love
02. [6:49] The Future
03. [4:06] Chelsea Hotel No. 2
04. [7:16] Tower Of Song
05. [3:43] Suzanne
06. [5:13] The Partisan
07. [7:49] Hallelujah
08. [3:23] A Thousand Kisses Deep
09. [9:20] Take This Waltz
10. [6:27] So Long, Marianne
11. [6:29] First We Take Manhattan
12. [5:18] Democracy

Total 71:27
That's the CDR I got today (released thru dimeadozen today, March 1st). I will download the podcast also and compare quality.

Anyhow, I am 100% sure this will be the most common Leonard Cohen 2008-09 bootleg... As Zurich 93. is from that tour. Also, finally the soundboard quality recording from this tour - it was funny to have only poor audience recordings, YouTube clips catch through cell phones in time of podcasts, iPods etc.

Just listened to the podcast. Wow. His voice is so strong and he can really deliver his songs. Shattering. Can't wait for the San Diego concert.

The show is so powerful that I don't think London DVD can beat it. Mesmerizing.

Thanks so much for letting us know about this podcast - I've just sat and listened to it :) Brought back many happy memories from gigs last year. So happy to hear Chelsea Hotel and Partisan on there too!

For a total computer (read luddite) beginner, how do I do the download to keep? I can listen to the concert fine and love it. However when I do the download I keep getting Tom Jones (which is fine) but I wanted Leonard. I am an IBM using computer sloth.
Cheers :?:

Thanks Nick. Downloaded and now I have to work how to burn and then tape so I can listen at home. Life was sometimes easier with a tape recorder and tape, I think I am the only person who still has a tape deck only in their car. :)

Entire Feb. 19 Beacon Theater NYC show on radio

Post by barbarita »

NPR is broadcasting the entire Beacon Theater show on program "Evening Music" 8pm Sat. March 7(....I'm listening to tonight's program(including Judy Collins singing Cohen songs) and just heard the announcer mention tomorrow night's show. (I am 99% sure he just said the whole thing would be on; it is a regular 3 hour radio program, so that's enough time!!!

This is so great, on top of the excerpts they've already put on....I was there on Feb. 19, will be out of town tomorrow but hope enough of you get to catch it.
