Man of Golden Words
Caught in the middle, a burglar of affairs;
he’s with the women between the moon and sea.
Tell him you love him but he never cares,
though he insists you’re the only one he sees.
Let his protests elicit pity like the song of wounded birds
as he kisses your mouth, this man of golden words.
Savor his mystery in whatever way you can,
absorb it all while it lasts.
He comes to you in a vision, sapphire in his hand,
and his eyes are like glass.
Your pleas of devotion are acknowledged, but never heard,
his form is distorted, all you seem to hear are his golden words.
They say he can speak and women will come.
He calls us constantly, but I’ve not answered him yet.
I wait by this window, I watch by a sun
that casts unforgiving light on everything I cannot forget.
My heart is in chaos, and my sympathies are disturbed
as I wait to hear the song of a man with golden words.

Hi J ~
The essence of this is reminiscent of the man who ascends the stairs and clears his throad in Leonard's poem. An excellent description of some men and, fortunately, not all

Leonard's poem
First off, it's good to be back. My computer bit the dust a couple of weeks ago, and I had to bide my time until I had sufficent funds to replace it with a new machine.
Anyway, yes, "Poem" from LUCM was an influence on those lines in question, a pronounced influence. The man in that poem and the man of golden words are linked by blood and habit. I hope that I didn't crib from Cohen too directly in those lines.
Again, to you all, thank you for your kind words.
