A "Political Section" of the Forum?
A "Political Section" of the Forum?
So, building off of the troll post by John E., I have a suggestion: should there be a separate section under "General" for political posts? That's what another forum I post in did.
The upside: one can completely and easily avoid everything.
The downside: moderators might spend the rest of their lives moving threads and posts around.

Re: A "Political Section" of the Forum?
and how about a special section for "Pornography" too?
I hope that put like that the answer is obvious.
There are plenty of places out there for visitors here to pursue their own particular special interests unconnected to the cultural areas around which Leonard Cohen's life has centred & revolved.
They should be encouraged to find them & stay on topic here.

Re: A "Political Section" of the Forum?
I think this is a great idea. I spend a lot of time in Everything Else, mostly because I participate in the "Picture Game" thread. I am getting increasingly tired of scrolling down through 7-10 political topics (new ones every few hours lately!) to get to the thread. The political posts are really cluttering up things, and trolls seem to be creating new threads for every little nuance they want to talk about.

Re: A "Political Section" of the Forum?
The best section for the political stuff would be the trashbin. People who use their days in writing all those messages should get a life. They will never be able to change each other's minds. Maybe they could spend that time in some charity work, it would be more helpful than just jaw around.

Re: A "Political Section" of the Forum?
As I understand it, Jarkko created the "Everything Else" section solely because there was too much off-topic material being posted in other threads. While there will always be the occasional disagreement over various matters, the trolls (such as the obvious ones
on this site) stand-out clearly with their relentless volume of unwanted propaganda. They will also continue to post in whichever threads they feel they will get the most-attention, and regardless of category. The best soultion therefore is to block their access to the site, and then watch out for them re-appearing with different names and new e-mail numbers. It should be rembered that this site is a labour of love on Jarkko's part, and intended primarily as a place to respectfully discuss the work and life of Leonard Cohen.

Re: A "Political Section" of the Forum?
I agree that it's time to do something to the endless political discussions, mainly kept up by a few members only. I opened a new section for those, at the very bottom of the Forum, and have already moved most of the recent threads there (will move more later). New threads with political contents in other sections only will either be deleted or moved.

Nice idea, thank you, Jarkko.
I'm just afraid you'll have to hire a full team of moderators around here! And then provide them with bulletproof vests...

I just have to say, I LOVE the description of the new political forum ... "If you really have to discuss politics ..." Thank you so much for doing this Jarkko. What a help in being able to go through the 'everything else' topic!
