Inspired Gifts

Post by Makera »

The two poems I wish to share with you were left on my voicemail as a 'thank you' from a long-distance friend a few years ago. Her name was Angel. (If you know them, forgive me if they are not transcribed correctly,
I copied them down from her messages.)

~For Someone Thoughtful~ by Amanda Bradley

"It only takes one smile to offer welcome
And blessed be the person who will share it
It only takes one moment to be helpful
And blessed be the person who will spare it
It only takes one joy to lift a spirit
And blessed be the the person who will give it
It only takes one life to make the difference
And blessed be the person who will live it."

~The Extra Mile~ by Emily Matthews

"They say you'll never be lonely
From the start of each day to its end
If you walk life's path with God in your heart
And side by side with a friend
Lord help me never judge someone
Before I know the score
Before I've walked in another's shoes
At least a mile or more
Let me be quick to understand
And slow to criticize
The world's a very different place
Viewed through another's eyes
So help me Lord to show myself
As one who'll always be
Ready to walk another mile
With those who ask of me"

I remind myself of two brakes to prevent my instant assumptions.
Judge not, lest ye be judged.
There but for the grace of G-d, go you or I.
"Bipolar is a roller-coaster ride without a seat belt. One day you're flying with the fireworks; for the next month you're being scraped off the trolley" I said that.

Hi Byron~

Yes, indeed. The voice mailbox referred to was on a chatline (not free) where they had a message board, chatrooms and private mailboxes; similar to this, only live by phone. All kinds of people all across America would call in. No primary theme or subject, like this kind of site. There were some real whackos & nasties but, as always, a few real angels. That was my way of 'getting to know' America when I was still a little new to it all. Plus starting out in a place a bit isolated from major city/social areas (upper west coast). I 'met' some wonderful people that way; distance means nothing to people who care. Even an inmate at a prison in New Jersey, had managed to call in a few times. I used to write to him.

Truth, Love & Light, :D
