So Good

Post by tisviv »

I'm still basking in the warm glow of seeing Leonard at the Bournemouth International Centre on Tuesday. A sublime performance - the sound quality, musicianship, ambience and the gracious and charismatic great man himself will stay in the memory. I went with my husband, son and elder daughter. They are 22 and 20 and love Leonard as much as I do; (my son has Leonard to thank for sparking his own interest in writing poetry) but we were all a little surprised that the vast majority of the audience was middle-aged to elderly - I do hope that younger people will become more appreciative of Leonard's awesome songwriting powers with the publicity surrounding this tour.

Does anyone know if there's a DVD planned of performances(s) from this tour?

I'd like to see Leonard on Jools Holland but don't know if that's likely - JH usually has people who have a new CD to promote and in any case I guess his series must be ending soon - (so we can all gather our thoughts before the HOOTENANNY (the last resort of the desperate on New Years' Eve..) Still, here's hoping.

I am a new fan. I didn't even know who he was until Wednesday of this week. And oh my God! I can't get enough! I want to buy all of his books and CDs and the new DVD. This may sound strange, but I have become obsessed! Does he have that effect on anyone else? The song Halleluja is amazing. I think I have heard it before, but didn't know who wrote it. I have watched his videos on Youtube over and over. I think I need help.

Does anyone know if ever performs in the United States? Someone tell him to come to Sacramento, California!

Hi Debbiejoy!

Welcome to the Forum! Oh yes! It is SO easy to become completely obsessed with Leonard! I've known of him for decades but really only FELT him within my soul about a year ago. Since then I've bought every cd I could....every dvd possible...books of poetry....books of prose....watched YouTube endlessly....followed every tour.....flew to Copenhagen in October for a concert (one night in Denmark 8) ..and then back to the USA). Now I'm waiting for the US and western Canada "possible" tour in late spring. I'll be everywhere I can to absorb this incredible talent....and this senior with the sexiest voice I have ever heard! ;-)

I guess those of who grew up on leonard cohen are seniors now but dont feel elderly! I think he is an acquired taste, my mother never really grew to appreciate his unique voice and prose nor my daughters who are in their twenties and grew up in Montreal feeling nostalgia for all things from Quebec, they are not into any of the singers from that era I can`t bribe them to go to concerts of stones, elton john, tina turner although they suddenly perked up interest when they heard a friend was moved to tears by a Leonard Cohen concert attended in Europe so I think now they would reconsider should he come back to Montreal or Eastern usa to do some concerts. I adore being on the computer wherever I am and being able to listen to LC on youtube. Recently they repeated the recording of the Montreal jazzfest tribute to Leonard Cohen on CBC and it was such a joy to watch it (even though I was present in person at the tribute concert). Does anyone know if there are any plans to put out a dvd of the concert tour, too bad nothing in the stores for Christmas, that would be number one on my wish list!!!!

I also have the 'within my soul feeling and the obsession! Leonard Cohen is mysterious and spiritual. I am elated :D that he is coming to Western Australia AND that I've got a ticket for the concert - I have to travel 6 hours (by car) to get there and in the summer heat (February is our hottest month). I'm so excited already! I hope I don't have a heart attack!!

Hi Eleanor,

Although I was disappointed that Leonard's tour is going to Australia and NZ prior to western Canada and the USA, I know how many fans he has there and how special it will be for all of you! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, you lucky woman :D His concerts are worth every mile travelled :D

Just make sure your air conditioning is working ;-)

I am 30 and I was also a little surprised to see that the vast majority of the audience in Frankfurt was above 50.
I do not go to concerts very often but I recently saw Robert Forster (ex-Go betweens) and there were also very few young people, I would say almost everyone was above 40. So it looks like the majority of people who attend these concerts are people who got to know the artists at the beginning of their career.
Having said that, I went to the church to listen to a Monteverdi concert last week and this rule apparently didn'y apply: most people were 65+ but way way younger than 400 ;-)

Several people have asked this question on this thread (and on others). Kory announced in MOJO, and Jarkko recently confirmed, that the DVD will feature the concert at London's O2 on 17 July and will be released in March.
