You can always go into the City Centre or the West End.
But there are also couple of hotels/restaurants around the Armadillo (=Clyde Auditorium)

Oran Mor? (Corner of Byers Rd and Gt Western Rd, in West End.)

It's big, has one of Glasgow's finest selection of fine malts, and IS OPEN LATE.

Oh, and there's some seriously impressive artwork by Alasdair Gray all over the place.

The one down side is that it is not especially near the Armadillo (concert venue). But then, nowhere is. Nowhere I'd particularly want to drink, anyway.

Other largish pubs that sell a good drink include Tennent's (also Byers Rd, West End) - the best pint in the West End, in my view.

Apart from these most of my favourite haunts in Glasgow are too small (Ben Nevis, Babbity's, Upstairs at the Chip). Although ... maybe Upstairs at the Chip is not such a bad idea. It's one of the rare drinking holes that is equally good for beer and for wine drinkers.

Thoughts?

Hello there

There is an art exhibition opening at Skypark, near the SECC, on the 6th November 2008 (Thurs) between 5:30 and 7:30pm. It's by an Edinburgh based artist - Ritchie Collins. Pop along if you can, all welcome.

There will be some bubly served.

Perfect way to start an amazing night!! :D

Hey,
I've lived in west end for nigh on 20 years now and can safely say that the nearest and best pub to the venue is Lebowskis on Argyle Street, just along from Ben Nevis. Its only been open a year or so, so maybe people are unaware of it, but if you're wanting a decent pub within walking distance then I'd go there...and you won't get better pub food anywhere else in Glasgow.
Ben Nevis is a cracking wee pub too, though it can be a bit crowded if its busy...Oran Mor is, in my opinion, full of pretentious wannabe's who like to talk about themselves, and there ain't no music to drown them out!...though a hundred yards south of it you do get a cracking pint in Tennents...bit of a walk to the auditorium though! Same with the chip, brilliant pub but a fair jaunt away.
On Thursday I shall be having a few beers in Lebowskis before braving the chilly night and sauntering over to the Secc..
Cheers,
Lenny
