Music to die for

I imagine that a number of us here have a Cohen song planned for our final departures.

I have chosen "If it be your will" to be played during the proceedings.
It is one of my favourite songs and seems fitting for the occasion.

I tried to think of another Cohen song for the end of the ceremony but decided on "To the Unknown Man" by Vangelis. Sorry Leonard.

I don't know why I'm bothering with all this though, I won't be there!
At least I may imprint something about me on all those gathered....all 6 of them!

Anyone wish to share their final plans?

We did this on the V.P. Board way back and got some interesting responses, so don't feel alone on your morbidity. I'll have to rethink mine, as I gave an immediate answer of Suzanne, but then wanted to add others.

If I had to choose a Cohen song for my funeral (instead of the Dylan one I've already chosen) it would probably be Closing Time. However, Heart with No Companion would run it a close second - the version off of the live album though, much more jolly. And well - "I greet you from the other side" - what could be more appropriate? I think you need some foot-tapping music at a funeral.

But the reality is that many people have thought about the music to be played at their own funeral. If that music happens to be by Leonard Cohen ( or any other artist ) then this gives an opportunity to share those thoughts.
His music must be a great influence on our lives if we are contemplating it being played when we make the final farewell.

As I recall, though, Georges, you aren't even planning to have a funeral...period. Am I remembering correctly? In that I believe in other spiritual planes, et al, I can envision watching/hearing it all take place. What a lovely farewell to this plane, as well as accompaniment to another, in that his music traverses them, anyway.

Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye is appropriate for many a funeral/memorial service/wake, including mine. The line "I see you standing on the other side" would have to be included, as well. I know there are others. A funeral/memorial service/wake with a whole lot of music would be perfect for me.

Actually, I'm definitely not either..but if I were so inclined those would be my choices.

No one of my friends, relatives, etc. - those who would go to my funeral - like this music. So, when I will be dying I will ask them to listen to my complete discography of Leonard Cohen beginning with Alexandra Leaving.

So that they will die of boredom or will fall in love with that sweet voice.

Now, there's a plan, Alexandra! I'll be adding some more to my list, as well. So many to choose from, once you really start listening from that perspective.

You couldn't have asked for a better namesake song, either [if that's really your name]. The only one I'm aware of with mine is a country-western song [one of those "bitter" ironies, with that being at least one of my few, least favourite types of music].

OK, Kush [and Georges], how about the songs you'd most like to hear in your final hours, knowing that they are just that. Who By Fire sounds good. I'm not familiar with the other one.

But on second thoughts, I really don't know....it has occurred to me that my musical tastes swing wildly from time to time.
