My One (and only) attempt at poetry

Post by John the Shorts »

For Leeanne (on her birthday)

As you reach twenty five
I wish I was ten years younger
(and ten stone lighter)
Then, maybe
I could do more than dream
I could hope
I may have a chance
(but not much)

JTS - don't give up the day job assuming the day job isn't as a poet

At least you had the guts to give it a go and you have a great future in greeting cards inserts. :D

She's a barmaid in a pub across the road from the office I work in.

She was disappointed that her birthday card only had:
i Leeanne

Have a Good One
written inside.

She felt that as a musician :?: (retired drummer) I should have been able to provide a little verse for her. So at 10ish (after finishing work at 4) I wrote the above drivel. Looking at it in the cold light of sobriety :? I must admit that I am amazed at my honesty :) , but not my poetic ability :( , after £20 worth of drink in Wetherspoons on a Monday Night  . (Us Brit's will understand).

She is a very nice young lady but, at 25, is far too young for me to do any more than tease her.

Well, it's all quite fitting then, John. I'm sure she appreciated what you gave her and will keep it. Alcohol can sure break down those inhibitions, can't it.

Lizzy

I'm not sure that it removes my inhibitions. Rather I'd say that it reduced my artistic taste to the point where my desire to do it was paramount and my ability to do it (write poetry that is  ) was nil.

Luckily for me (or not) Leeanne retained her discretion enough to say goodnight.
