Evil out of Good

Post by George.Wright »

Evil can really come out of Good
Like the bloody, spiral, universe knots on the crucified wood
Like the dark, foreboding, tale of the innocent babes in the wood
Like the nourishment and suckling of the familiars, in the devil's brood

A smile can conceal, a sharp, secretive, silver, scalpel, knife
Behind the sinister back, about to take an unsuspecting life
And the torturing, stretching, racks of the Spanish Inquisition
Forgot God in their need for a confession, a decision

Like the flames that extinguished the life of Joan of Arc
They were not lit by sinners, but by the Church's divine spark
Where does the energy change and decide to divide?
Where is the dividing line, of the shore with the tide?

What causes good intentions to go horribly bad?
What changes the ultimate happiness to the very dark and sad?
And the sly, silhouetted, serpent, smiled and rattled his evil tail
He was sick and tired of trying to catch the white, good, whale
That sometimes surfaces from the purple realms of the very deep
More often than not, when we are in the realms of our, forgotten, sleep

The testing playground of our ultimate fears and desires?
Is it to be Angels playing their white, virginal, lyres?
Or the devil's roasting in their own, hellish, fires?

I'm not so sure about trying to rhyme: "wood" with itself. Seems redundant.

Stanza 2, line 1:
A smile can conceal, a sharp, secretive, silver, scalpel, knife
All kinds of things to re-think:
conceal//secretive are redundant
scalpel//knife are redundant
I'd also offer that: sharp//scalpel are redundant.
I could be pared (yes! a pun!) down to:
A smile can conceal a silver scalpel

Do you believe in editing? With such an arsenal of ideas and images you could be so much better if you took editing seriously and tightened up what you are trying to say.
