I understand why Heretic says what he says....I went to see his profile and he is honest enough to tell about himself so other may understand his sayings....

goosh..this forum is full of smokers !!!jeesh...
but why?
isn`t there any easier way to kill oneself ?
maybe you should just jump off the roof, instead of waiting for the discovery of your lung-cancer....
btw,you ruin other peoples health too with spreading your stinky cigaret smell all over the streets or whatever....
well,anyway,do as you like...

What really amuses me is that health nazis will froth and foam at the mouth at the mere mention of a cigarette but blithely choose to ignore genetic manipulation and irradiated food, pesticides, life threatening chemicals in products as supposedly innocuous as make-up and hair colouring and absolutely refuse to admit the existence of nuclear waste - because we all know of course how safe nuclear power is and we're not going to let a little problem like poisoning of the earth for the next few million years get in the way of our favourite self righteous rant, are we?

Hello Jo. There was a programme on BBC Radio 4 today from the Orkney Islands, off Northern Scotland. What was being discussed was eco friendly ways of obtaining energy. It was very rewarding to hear that 25% of all the electricity for the Orkadians, as they are called, is provided by 3 Wind Generated Windmills. Also, it will not be long before all of the islands' electricity will come from this natural source of power. The point of the issues which were examined was that a community on the edge of the British Isles can be self sufficient in electricity in a very short time. That example is one which I, and now any readers of this thread can consider, after reading your posting. Let us hope that there is real hope for us all! :?

No health nazi or smoking rant here.....but I have to admit that I was quite surprised to see the number of smokers all on this forum. Never had a whiff in my whole life and I can't even think of any smokers that I know off-hand.

There is a depressing irony in seeing the term "nazi" used so thoughtlessly on a website devoted to Leonard Cohen.

i couldn't care less if you smoke or not, but as for me... i prefer to keep as much of my health (and money) intact as possible. there's little i can do (i've tried, though probably not hard enough) about nuclear waste, but i see no reason to smoke.

about genetic manipulated food i'll keep my comments for myself, because last time i tried to explain people that it's not as dangerous as they think i ended up arguing and not speaking to some of my good friends. i could refer to my friend who is a PhD in molecular biology and works at one of the most famos research centers in the world, in zurich, switzerland, and who explained me some things about genetic manipulated food, but it still wouldn't be enough. i know - i've tried.

while I was waiting in my local bus station today I sat down and lit up a much earned ciggie, 4 elderly ladies then sat next to me, well I am a considerate smoker and moved a little away from them waving the smoke in another direction, only for all 4 ladies to light up their own! On the subject of the environment I read an amusing short letter in my daily paper the other day, it read:

To prevent the eyesore of wind turbines on our countryside, why not put them underground? You must have heard of wind tunnels.

Well it made me laugh

I think that what really gets under the smoker's skin is not the health issue but the stink issue. Smokers have no idea how bad their clothes, houses, and not least, their breath smells. When I think of LEonard, no matter how "Ricco Suave" he is with his hats and pin-striped suits, he just has to reek.

 Now, there's a point of merit, Midnight, having been around people who smoke and those who don't; even though dying far outweighs reeking, as a consideration.

I think Jerry Lewis use to smoke, before he learnerd to suck on lozengers all day.

Either way, I just can't get over the oral fixation thing without wanting a life saver myself, or a pretty girl. Yuck!

A pretty girl is always a life saver.

That's where the 'Yuck' came from.

um... that's about it.
