like salinger?

i read in a comment refering to the novel Favourite Game a comparison between this novel and Salinger's one, Catcher in the Rye. after i read the books, i started to doubt this statement. the ideas may be a little bit alike, but the characters, the way they impress the reader are different.
what do you think?

i think the a comparison could be made in the sense of alienation the main characters feel. they seem to be coming to the realization of one's intrinsic aloneness.
