:) Lets forget the football eh!...(That's five (Rugbyworld cup) words on most New Zealanders lips the last year!) ...Anyway Ive had private messages from both St Theresa and Vivamus that Henneseys Irish Pub in the city is a good option. Vivamus you are very good with your links, and your local knowledge, are you able to pull up a wee google map and somehow get it on here please for St Theresa, and anyone else who might decide to join in.? And Luis if you're reading this, what time do you think would then allow us to get to where we are going and all who want a meal get it?? Would we need to be there by 6 to 6.30??...At this point I think there seems to be Vivamus, St Theresa and their husbands, your group of ..4? and me. Not sure what has happened to Magda so thats 9 of us. If anyone else reads this and thinks they might come along then would we be needing to give the pub an indication that we will be arriving...(Questions questions always questions Im like the gestapo  ..) But anyway it seems to me it might be courtesy to let them know some approximate numbers, and also might save any hold ups when we all need to get going to Alges..? What do you think Luis, Blue_Bird, or anyone else who might be reading)..

Im now editing this later..Im such a bossy boots organiser at times arent I  .(I should leave my work out of all this!)..
I forget I will be in Lisbon for a few days. I can call them myself the day before when Im there if needed as a courtesy, with an indication of numbers....thats also closer to the time...

hi New Zealander and all,

New Zealander, someone has to take the role of leader in all this, and that is definitely not me, so I thank you for all the work you have done. I can barely keep my desk organized (well I know where everything is of course) I have managed to pull up a few maps and have some idea of the the lay of the land so to speak. I was looking at Ihglin's Irish pub --but I will check out Hennessey's now. And we will also have two days to figure it all out once we get there--My main fear is that I will forget my tickets at home--I am always checking things like tickets, keys etc as I tend to be a bit anxious. I usually have them, but one never knows. The night of the kd lang concert I had to come back up two flights of stairs twice, before I had the tickets in hand. I kept remembering other things I needed at the last minute and dropping the tickets. oh well  Wish me luck

Hello again all,

I've been busy with The Guests From Hades for a couple weeks now, so really haven't been back here much, but Hennessey's has its own website, with menus & maps and in English too:

http://www.hennessys.com.pt/

If you're going to book, please don't count me or my partner in- We had a bad meal at that bar once, and I don't think I could drag him back there; I was just trying to get us to finalise somewhere. As I said before, personally, we'll probably still go to the Mexican, but will have to settle to waving at you from their patio as you walk by to the venue (we must devise some sort of Cohenite code so that we recognise each other- perhaps a copy of The Book of Longing carried under one's arm?).

I'm overnighting in Lisbon tonight, and will get some pictures of the Casa do Alentejo, as that's where we're eating. I think they've got a baile, or dance, on tonight, so there should be plenty of local colour!

Must say, I'm getting really excited already, and there's still such a long way to go until the concert! *moue*

Thanks Vivamus, you will be there now as I start my new week at work Monday morning..The photos will be interesting.no worries about getting together, we can work out a texting system perhaps closer to the time, we text as we leave or something..If we strategise it all we'll find each other....And I found my passport in the safe place where I thought(and its still valid!), just some other papers and things had piled on top...time to blow off the cobwebs and get it all ready eh!... Bye.. :)

Blue_Bird, I have an apology to make, when I asked you how far it was from Belem to Alges I thought that you said 5Km! ..but in fact I now see it was 5m......(is that 5 minutes?.. by train) Was perhaps not so far as I assumed at the time....Perhaps I need to buy spectacles as well as a plane ticket !...Im sorry about that...But well anyway now we are settled in the Irish pub, which I see is right across the road from the train as well.....we will go all the way from there to Alges I guess, ....I hope you are not offended at my misreading and change of venue to the city...(I will explore the pastry shop too sometime before Saturday)...Also this may seem to be a private little discussion between three or four English speaking women, but its not, we will have some hospitable Portuguese with us too who will not be always speaking English so I hope that anyone will feel welcome to come along as well to their own Irish pub!...and along to the concert....We will all be there with one aim in mind..as you say Bluebird, "To Enjoy the Special and Unique Moment".... :)

Hello all.
I'm looking for some info /help. I'm thinking of going over to the concert in Lisbon. Can anyone let me know what area I should be looking for a hotel ?

Can I buy tickets when I get there, or would I be better to try and book them now ?

I've been to a concert in Dublin and just want more, so I'm thinking I'll mix Leonard with my summer holiday a few days in Lisbon and then down to The Algarve. Talk of meeting-up in an Irish pub seemed like a sign..

Hello MFL,

Another potential Lisbon concert-goer, eh? [tents fingers a la Mr.Burns] Excellent, excellent.

The area the venue is in is Alges/ Oeiras. You might try inputting 'Alges' into the search box at http://www.booking.com as they have a great map facility for each hotel, and you can see exactly how far away you are from where you need to be. There is a thread titled 'Lisboa' in the 'On the Road with Leonard' section that shows exactly where they'll be setting up the stage in Alges, so you can compare from there.

As for ticket purchase, that's up to you. It's potentially a fairly big open venue, and general admission, so I doubt they'll sell out, but you can either buy from http://www.ticketline.pt and have them sent out to you or you can purchase them directly from a FNAC location: http://www.fnac.pt/pt/espectaculos/Defa ... 5&p_cat=16

List of FNAC locations: http://www.fnac.pt/pt/Institutional/FnacS.aspx

Hope that helps.

Now, if you need any tips for the Algarve, I can hook you up as I might actually know what I'm talking about there....

Hi Vivamus,

Thank you so much for that info, a little push was all I needed, The flights are now booked. (As of 5 mins ago)
I think I may wait until I get there to get the tickets, I'm not sure, if I book now will they get here in time ?? I know it's 3 weeks but still, I don't know...
Lots of hotels on that site so that should be fine, We are flying in on Friday night so should get to look around the city on sat. and meet up with you lot at some stage. Myself, my partner and son. Anywhere we should vist ??

On Sunday we will head for the Algarve, We went on holiday there a few years ago, It was the best holiday I have ever had, Everything was wonderful, the people, the food, the beaches a little piece of heaven.. Looking forward to going back. We were in Praia da Rocha and I think we would like to go back there, so if there is anywhere you can recommend that would be great. Also what is the best way to get from Lisbon to there, Bus or train ??

:) Oh Welcome MFL!..I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the fun on your Irish threads too, I think we will get on well :?: :) ..My tickets to New Zealand from ticketline took only 10 days to arrive way over here, but that was paying the quickest courier price...and Vivamus, well she lives on the Algarve..so you have the best source of information for that as well....Well, see you in Lisbon then... 8) 8) ..great!

Hi Marcie,

I am going to the Lisbon concert as well. I booked tickets on line the morning after the Saturday night concert in Dublin. I am collecting tickets at the venue on the day of the concert. I couldn't believe my luck. I am on holidays in The Algarve from July 10 to July 29. I would recommend Carvoeiro for your holiday.

Regards

Hi Canice,
Welcome to the fourm, so nice that your first post was to give me some help, thank you so much, did you just select the box office option when booking, I havn't booked tickets on-line before so I'm a little lost. Trying to do it for the first time with a different language is even harder, but it is worth it. I can't wait..The concert in Dublin was wonderful, I was also there on Satuarday night... I just want More.

NewZealander I'm sure we will get on great, the meet-up's in Dublin were wonderful, (Were you at any Canice??) If you read any reports about me drinking all the wine they are all untrue....  Count me in for any meet-up's in Lisbon. 8)

Hi Marcie,
I booked it through ticketline.pt and they emailed me receipt with details of collection. It is easy even with the language difficulties. If you want to relive the Dublin concert go on to You Tube.com and key in leonard cohen live. I am on the site at the moment.
