After reading the post about The Leonard Cohen NY2004 Event and getting group discounts for the Sex Museum all I say is "Include me out" !
All I can envision is one long, smutty sniggerfest where everyone tries to top the last dirty joke. What could be more juvenile...or boring.

. I can't imagine that everyone will be interested, anyway. However, since separating the sexual, sensual, and erotic from the spiritual, religious, and philosophical with Leonard's work can sometimes require the equivalent of laser surgery, whilst walking backward in a house of mirrors, I would also think that a number will be legitimately interested.....likely including Leonard himself, if he were going to be there.

Sex is intrigueing, Linda. It's a respectable aspect of our lives. It has historically been treated from one extreme to the other on the attitude/acceptance/integration/socialization continuum, by different societies and during different periods. There's no lack of it in Leonard's work. It is alluded to in numerous ways in various, other popular songs. It's rampant in the film industry and other media. It's often both denegrated and treated in denegrating fashion. It's also celebrated.
The fact that Hallelujah was playing in the background, and that the Kama Sutra is included, are two aspects [in addition to being contrasted to the one in Amsterdam] that cause me to believe that it's more of a historical/cultural retrospective on the issue as a whole. Not an exercise in titillation [leading to sniggering, except by those who would be embarrassed by it, regardless; i.e. the gigglers in movie theatres during sexual scenes ~ a hallmark of our own society's discomfort level with it].
Sex has been at the root of the downfall of societies, world leaders, famous people, religious institutions, marriages, ad infinitum. It's a powerful force to be reckoned with, as well as enjoyed. If treated respectfully, and the account gives me the impression it is, I'm interested in such a unique display. I'm not one for off-colour/"dirty" jokes and never have been. Still, there are those at which I can't help but laugh. You already know my stance regarding Eminem's treatment of it in song. The fact that the museum is on sex does not influence me into thinking negatively about it. I'll know better how I feel once I'm there and see it. Until then, I'm open to the possibilities of learning something, and understanding how the WASP perspective is not necessarily [nor should it be] the norm.

I'm back. Since you haven't replied to this yet, I'm wondering what are your reasons for not wanting to go to the Museum.
Tonite I watched a videotape of a short, TV special on Tina Turner, followed by footage of her performing Live in Amsterdam. Her show is clean. Her singer-dancers are true dancers. She makes high, sexual energy pure fun. Viking Woman ~ Strong Queen of High, Sexual Energy. [Not a title of anything, just the way I see her. At nearly 60, she's truly amazing! Powerful show.] She loves giving to the people who love her. As Leonard does in his intense, controlled, contained and quiet way; Tina does with intensity, control, and pure joy. I laughed when I saw her say [paraphrased] that she doesn't know music, but she knows what [sound] she wants. She lets her musicians, who do know music, have their say because they know music, and then when they do it her way, they see that she was right . I loved it.
