.And Blue Bird..that is in the old docks area closer back towards the city???....I was reading about it in one of my several Lisbon books here as being.. as you say..."a great place to be for dining and fun..close to the water"..... I Seem to have pretty much that whole 12 to 15 hours around the concert all worked out.....Its going to be a very good time.... 8)

Blue Bird, thank you very much, I've heard about this place, but actually haven't realised it is closed to the venue. I hope you have the same customs as in Spain od dining late at night.

Hello again,..Magdasto,St Theresa,Luis, Karen, Blue Bird, Polar Fox?...(and anyone else interested who I may have missed..Im sorry of I have!...
Ive had an email from Vivamus who was asking about the Lisbon meet up ..i.e. time and place. He and his wife are driving up from the Algarve and will be looking for a meal before the event..(as some of you will be too). He has posted on another thread some maps and details of a Mexican Restaurant along the waterfront close to the venue where they will be going before the concert.....Im unsure of all this not being a "local"....However it does seem sensible to meet no too far from our final destination??... ...

Im not sure how early we will need to get there to see properly??...does anyone know how many tickets are being sold??...Last time I went to an outdoor concert this summer people arrived an hour or two before and we sat in the sun and ate and drank. before the music...(which was very good!)..We werent allowed to take any food or drink in but there were food tents with nice summer platters of fruit and cheese and some meats...and you could buy wine and beer as well....Is this the way you run your summer concerts over there??...Or are you looking at many thousands of people packing into a standing room only paddock...?(Now thats a very kiwi farming word!)...field??...or is it a concrete enclosure??....

So anyone interested in Vivamus's closer idea...you can find his post at ...The fourth subtopic on the main page called "The Leonard Cohen Events"...and the bottom sub/sub topic of "Other Gatherings"....I found the google maps and the pictures very interesting too..thanks!...(I would think that you would need to be there (or around that area something like 5.30 to 6??...).... :)

Hey NewZealander
Aye, our lads are doing fairly well on the EuroCup. I reckon they can do better soccer than they've shown so far and that if they play consistently they have a real chance to win the competition 8) .
I suppose the subs will play tomorrow against the Swiss co-hosts as we've got the 1st place assured in our group. The harder task starts on Thursday on the quarter finals (likely against the Germans).
It has been a good tournament so far - much better soccer than in the World Cup 2 years ago, though I think soccer quality will drop dramatically in knock-out matches (good defending will become vital). I am enjoying the surprises - especially Italy and France being literally thrashed by the the Dutch :!: I'd already seen France and Italy being disappointingly under pair but never expected to see them completely washed away by 3 goals difference in an EuroCup

I just hope the matches keep enjoyable as I'll lose interest otherwise.

Cheers!
Luis

And yes we all know which "gentlemen's football" you and I are really aligned to eh Luis?..(Though there was certainly a lot of blood around last night as we played England over here)...Its the Irish though that are giving the the Southern Hemisphere a good run for their money right now  !...we barely beat them, and last I heard last evening they were also giving the Aussies a "good going over"...  ;-) ;-)

Anyway Ive decided not to go to Carisbrook now to see the allblacks and springboks..the preferential seats I was offered were to cost double the price of LC in Lisbon!..I will watch it at home in the warm as its most likely to be sitting on zero that evening....I decided to save my pennies (and my health) to have a few more lovely times out eating in Portugal!...

Its only a month now ...see you all there!... :)

Hi Lisbon friends
I am indeed finishing up at work--two weeks to go; then two more weeks before I leave here. So I will have time to decompress from a very busy time. The allblacks were playing in ChristChurch I think when we stayed there, so we had to move on to the next town after one night. We didn't mind as the lack of central heating rather surprised us when we got there. I have been following the reviews from so many shows in Canada and now in Ireland--even at an outdoor venue with 10, 000 fans, it didn't seem to matter--I guess passeio maritimo will be at least as good as that. You go Leonard!

Yes I see that the average temperature for Lisbon in July is about 25 degrees!?....so I was wondering how he would manage in that suit and hat...although there will probably (possibly)? be an evening breeze from the river...From one who lives by the water..though its most probably going to be a lovely balmy evening.. Leonard may be dressed for summer by then....Oooh I hope he still wears the hat!... I wonder what time it will be dark?..over here in January (which is the 6months in reverse) It stays light till about 10pm....but then I think we are closer to the (south) pole.....Nice to also read about the big outdoor concerts in Ireland being successful....Did you see that Irish reporter talking about the crowd mostly being on the "wrong side" of 50? ...my word....Lets wait till its his turn eh...As I start thinking about what I am packing in my bag for the big adventure I think Im absolutely on the very "right side" of that age..will all be good! 8)

Hi New Zealander
I wonder which side of 70 Leonard is on and can I please just be on the same side when I am 73? The temperature in Edmonton will be around 26 this week (finally) We have waited a long time for warmth this spring.
The days of waiting now are almost done. Light and warmth is ours for at least another month. One month from today I will be in Lisbon. Check out the picture of Leonard with James T in Manchester. Who knows! Maybe we could be so lucky! :D

....Now after that lovely :) weather report from Lisbon...shall I tell you that this evening in Port Chalmers New Zealand I was at a meeting,As it started at 5.30pm it was almost dark! when I came outside at 7.30pm it was very dark.On my car there was frost and ice beginning to form on the windscreen!....And over this winter, perhaps in July there may be power cuts/savings in NZ as we had a dry summer and there is not enough water in our Southern hydro lakes to make enough power!!.... ..Oh roll on Beautiful Lisbon.... 8) 8) ....

There is one redeeming feature to this cold and chilly night though...this beautiful big almost full moon!. :) ..I could just about walk across the water in front of our place on the moonbeams!...I'll send it around the world for you all to see later eh! ;-) It will be like that on the Tagus in a month...woohoo! :) :) :)
Yes St Theresa I am so enjoying reading it all, enjoyed the photo too, its so great to see the next generation getting right into appreciating Leonard,...and his three hour concerts!!!...I cant wait!...Did someone say..the concert of the century!???....

and Hei Blue_Bird...we are all a bit in limbo about our meeting point, I think in the end we were meeting at the pastry shop??.Can you tell us how long you think it might take to walk along to the venue and try and get a reasonable position to see please?...What do you think may be a suitable time for us all to meet there??....

Here in Lisbon is real hot (30º), about the concert in this moment I don´t know if I'm going to with a special person (you know LC concert is a special and unique moment), but I will do my best for help all foreign friends with infos...The Pastry shop could be a nice meeting point for everyone (must eat one pastry too cause they are really delicious believe me!), well from Belem train station (near Pastry Shop) to Alges station (venue) must be 5 m (by train), walk along is a little bit so far (forgot!!), I don't know what time does the doors will open but maybe around 19.30 H (concert 21.00 h), the venue capacity is 12.000 but only 5.000 (around) will be sale (I guess) there's a lot of concerts in Lisbon this year, Bob Dylan and Neil Young will play one week before LC ( insame venue) too, Diana Krall (July 30), Madonna etc... lots of rock summer festivals etc...

hmm I heard about Neil Young and Bob Dylan..shame I was not absolutely greedy and arrive the week before.. 8) But never mind LC is the man for me on that day!. :) Its great to get a local perspective on all this Blue_Bird, as google maps were only telling half the story..As I will be in town for a few days before I will have possibly been to the pastry shop on my way past (a few times!)anyway, so I am not so worried at where is decided..It does though seem very silly to get off and on the train again Possibly it will be very crowded around 8pm when we will be needing to move on in I should think?. I know that several of the others are staying in the city, driving in from out of town and were talking about a meal..So I do wonder if in fact we should be meeting in there earlier for a meal?..and then just all get on the train and go all the way to Alges before we get off??...Luis (from the North)has his regular meet up in the Irish Pub for his meal with family and others coming to the concert. I know this was not a favoured venue for others...Im happy to go along with the flow of what the others would like. But St Theresa how does your husband feel about it all, does he want a bigger meal before, as I know that Vivamus was talking that way, and you are all driving in from out of town to your hotels.....Should we be looking to find somewhere close to your hotel?....for the convenience of Canada!...I think there are probably only about 8 to ten of us at this stage....So Canada...its your turn...
Thank you very much Blue_Bird for that very important piece of local knowledge about the trains!.... ;-) ..

Ok, I didn't realise Luis' dinner arrangements were prior to the concert. Why don't we all meet at the Irish bar then- unless it would be imposing on a family gathering...? What time would that be?

I shouldn't think we need to book ahead if it's as early as 6pm, say. But I don't know for sure, not being privy to "local information". ;-)

Sorry Vivamus our email conversation got interrupted..by a night's sleep!...Actually for me that would be a great idea, then we dont lose contact with someone (Luis) who has been very hospitable, and it also seems that if anyone else comes along between now and the day we could all be quite easily accomodated... :) My understanding was that Luis first suggested that venue...he's also meeting some others who are also coming to the concert....seems a great idea to me!...
And right now I hear that Germany is one goal ahead in the soccer match.... .....GO PORTUGAL!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! :) :)
