Dance Me To The End Of Love (again)

Post by Andrew (Darby) »

It was such a pleasant surprise to hear this song wafting from our TV room and even more so when I discoverd that it was the lead track for this new TV series (Crashburn) which premiered here in Australia on Channel 10 tonight! 8)

Of course, Jarkko, it also means there is another cover version to put on your list!

The following interesting explanatory qoute is from the web-site of the soundtrack production company (Liberation Music). http://www.liberation.com.au/soundtracks.cfm?id=11
Quote:
The lead track: “Dance Me To The End Of Love”, penned by Leonard Cohen, echoes beneath the opening credits on the show. This version was specially commissioned for Crashburn and features the vocals of Mark Seymour. Co-creator Andrew Knight suggested the song because he felt “it was the right mix of sad and positive. It seemed to sum up the incomprehensibility, the danger and the romance of long term love.” Selling the idea was the easy part. Producer Fiona Eagger had given the lyrics to her husband on their engagement, while Knight’s writing partner Deb Cox, producer Andrea Denholm and the first episode’s director Tony Tilse all loved the song. Having found the song, selecting the voice to deliver it was equally important. Mark Seymour, former front man with iconic Australia band Hunters & Collectors was decided upon, after considering several other vocalists. Andrew Knight had been a fan of Mark’s work for many years and felt that the song was a great vehicle for his “distinctly Australian voice.” The track was recorded especially for Crashburn and features the haunting vocal harmonies of Louise McCarthy.

There is also a cover of Take This Waltz sung by Russell Crowe (of Gladiator fame) floating around in Australia somewhere. He has sung the song at a number of festivals etc.
