COLOURS

Post by david birkett »

Forgive me if this has been comprehensively discussed before and (those not blessed with British nationality) for the spelling of 'colours'.

I would really appreciate some ideas about the references Cohen is making to certain colours, e.g.
that loosen the high silver nerves
I changed my style to silver, I changed my clothes to black
and, I'm sure many more.

Your erudition and insight would be appreciated.

But one prize is beyond his reach:
The Ogre cannot master speech.

Hi David

The colour black is in my view mournful and representative of Cohen's mood in this song, having come so far for beauty. Changing his style to silver could imply changing to something of less value.
