Their Power Dies

Post by Boss »

Their Power Dies
- Jez, I remember you
this day

I tamed the psychoses
and success
of yesterday
wrapped them into
a neat ball
kicked them away
spoke with Jeremiah
and Malachi
asked them what to do
when the television
speaks to me
of secret plots
the coming war
the plagues of
idolatry and shame

I look up
fifteen of them
two security guards
a doctor with an
index finger
lodged in his chin
the nurse sticks it in
it stings a little
I look to the doctor
he smiles
as the neuroleptic
fills my mind
until I cannot see
anymore

The sun scarpers
in the red dust
I walk faster
to the Subway store
I want a one-footer
full of health
and a diet Coke -
it’s hot.
There is a man
reading the King James
on a lonely table
I tell him ‘I’m not sure -
G-d used to mess
with my head’
He looks at me
whispers ‘Thank you’
then leaves

I reread this poem
try to move
in the mess of it all
I find two mates
some family
and a no-fuss G-d -
decent, patient
I turn to ‘Him’
for balance
and order
and clarity.
The woman
down the road,
the one in control
of the shop
and the senate,
she knocks on
my door
and asks me why
her husband
left

‘Woman, why do
you ask me? I am
but nothing. I know
not why the sun
rises or sets.’
She retorts, ‘You
seek forgiveness,
you know nothing
of power!’
I lean over
and remove
a leaf
from her hair
‘And you do not
know Providence’
I put the leaf
in her hand

Jesus He Knows Me - Genesis

You see the face on the tv screen
Coming at you every sunday
See that face on the billboard
That man is me

On the cover of the magazine
Theres no question why Im smiling
You buy a piece of paradise
You buy a piece of me

Ill get you everything you wanted
Ill get you everything you need
Dont need to believe in hereafter
Just believe in me

Cos jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
And hes been telling me
Everything is alright

I believe in the family
With my ever loving wife beside me
But she dont know about my girlfriend
Or the man I met last night

Do you believe in god
Cos thats what Im selling
And if you wanna get to heaven
Ill see you right

You wont even have to leave your house
Or get outta your chair
You dont even have to touch that dial
Cos Im everywhere

And jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
Well hes been telling me
Everythings gonna be alright

Wont find me practising what Im preaching
Wont find me making no sacrifice
But I can get you a pocketful of miracles
If you promise to be good, try to be nice
God will take good care of you
Just do as I say, dont do as I do

Im counting my blessings,
Ive found true happiness
Cos Im getting richer, day by day
You can find me in the phone book,
Just call my toll free number
You can do it anyway you want
Just do it right away

Therell be no doubt in your mind
Youll believe everything Im saying
If you wanna get closer to him
Get on your knees and start paying

Cos jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
Well hes been telling me
Everythings gonna be alright, alright

Jesus he knows me
Jesus he knows me, you know...

Gates gets pay hike

World's richest man gets 4% raise, with bigger payout coming from dividend jump.
September 21, 2004: 11:26 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, the world's richest man, got a modest pay raise over the last year, according to a company filing.

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates saw only a modest rise in pay but a big jump in dividend payments during the company's last fiscal year.
Gates, who is also the company's chief software architect, received $901,667 in salary and bonus from the company for the fiscal year ended June 30, the company revealed in its proxy filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That's up 4.4 percent from the year earlier total in salary and bonus.

But Gates' increase was lower than the nearly 15 percent rise in pay and bonus he received the previous fiscal year.

The filing shows Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer received the identical pay and bonus as Gates, as he has each of the previous two years. Neither executive received stock options

Gates was listed as the world's richest man by Forbes in March, with an estimated net worth of $46.6 billion.

Gates' personal income saw a bigger jump when Microsoft doubled its annual dividend to 16 cents from 8 cents during the 2003 fiscal year. The company's first dividend payment was made in fiscal 2003.

With 1.1 billion shares of Microsoft stock, or about 10 percent of its shares outstanding, Gates' dividends during the year came to about $175.6 million.

This November, the company plans to pay a special dividend of $3 per share, subject to shareholder approval. The company announced in July that Gates will donate his $3.3 billion proceeds of the special dividend to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the charitable organization named for him and his wife.

The company has also announced it will now pay a quarterly dividend of 8 cents a share, again doubling the 16-cent annual dividend it paid last year. That should raise Gates' regular dividend payments to about $351 million.

Ballmer holds about 411 million shares of Microsoft stock, meaning his dividend payments during the last fiscal year came to about $65.8 million. His dividend payments this fiscal year, including the $3 special dividend, are due to come to $1.4 billion.

Thanks Myra... Hey, there's a rumour goin' round.
Kinda' goes like this:
It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst.
It's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way
Have you heard it?

Have a nice day,
Boss

Her Majesty- The Beatles

Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl,
but she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
but she changes from day to day

I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a bellyful of wine
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
Someday I'm going to make her mine, oh yeah,
someday I'm going to make her mine.

Material Girl - Madonna

Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think they’re o.k.
If they don’t give me proper credit
I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can’t see the light, that’s right
’cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always mister right, ’cause we are

Chorus:

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

end of chorus

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That’s all right with me
If they can’t raise my interest then I
Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don’t let them play
Only boys who save their pennies
Make my rainy day, ’cause they are

(chorus)

Living in a material world [material]
Living in a material world
(repeat)

Boys may come and boys may go
And that’s all right you see
Experience has made me rich
And now they’re after me, ’cause everybody’s

(chorus)

A material, a material, a material, a material world,

Living in a material world [material]
Living in a material world
(repeat and fade)

I reread this poem
try to move
in the mess of it all
Hi Boss.
About "Their Power Dies".
For me, this is a very energetic and well written piece.
I think your work (poems) have moved from verbal/written acts of defiance; to poetry.
(You can kick my arrogant arse for saying that... 8) )
This poem is, as always with you, direct. It is also concise and yet vast (time) at the same time.
I can see what you mean by the above quote, "I try to move in the mess of it all", but the mess works! So, it is not a mess.
I find two mates
some family
and a no-fuss G-d -
decent, patient
I turn to ‘Him’
In fact this is very "un-messy";
very sky-blue clear
for this reader.

Just taking more time on 'em.

No one on this forum can distinguish a poem from a shopping list. No one on earth can. Poetry is all things
