It would be great if Leonard sold more records, I don't get this idea of "keeping him to ourselves", if that were the case then an artist would never share their work, how sad that would be.

You just have to take a look at this, it's entertainment like they just don't make anymore, fantastic, I believe Leonard wrote it.

We already have the essential LC and there is at least one greatest hits/best of album (official anyway), is there any point in a Very best of..? Is anyone likely to buy it considering the only different tracks are likely to be a couple of inclusions from Dear Heather?

Hi jikan4,

There have been four Leonard compilations so far - Best of (originally called Greatest Hits in the UK in the 70s), More Best of in the 90s, and two double albums - Mojo Presents, and The Essential. Thus from a marketing angle, a single "Very Best Of" album was an inevitability. It will no doubt be a commercial enterprise, aimed at first-time buyers who pick up on Leonard through the touring publicity, Glastonbury etc. (and hopefully it will stop there). Nick Drake has had as many compilation albums released as proper studio albums (he made three) and the Beach Boys sem to have released a new compilation album almost every summer for 30 odd years!

Release of this CD has now been pushed back to July 28th. Also, there are now some clues as to what it may contain. Of particular note, on June 30th Sony UK will release a 5-CD 'Leonard Cohen Collection' boxset with re-mastered (yes!) versions of 'Songs of Leonard Cohen', 'Various Positions', 'I'm Your Man', 'The Future', and 'Ten New Songs'. Presumably, like the Dylan collection last year, the single 'Very Best Of' CD will contain a selection of songs from these five Cd's. All re-mastered. This is great news.
