I Wonder Why

Post by daka »

I Wonder Why

The truth I know
Can set me free
I close my eyes
And can not see
I wonder why
I still deny.
I wonder why

My time, I waste,
What there is left
I take a taste
I make my bet
I wonder why
I still deny.
I wonder why

Every time
I turn an inch
A thorn will pierce
A thorn will pinch
I wonder why
I still deny.
I wonder why

Some friends were there
And they came back
To lead me where
There is no crack
I wonder why
I still deny.
I wonder why

The spell will break
I know not when
I will awake
I'll sleep 'till then
I wonder why
I still deny.
I wonder why

Hi Diane

The short answer is 'Attachment to samsara'.

The long answer I am still working on. When I have it well enough formulated I will PM you.

Hi Sean

Nicely done - I have to admit that I needed the word samsara (which I googled) to understand what you were talking about.
I noticed you asked Steven what style of poetry this is - I don't know the answer, but it does seem to suit you well.

Hi Cate

Thanks for the kind words

Nice to bump into you again

I googled too to find out what kind of style that poetry is and it is 'Freestyle'.... I think I learned that 44 year ago.

I am wondering what the difference is between freestyle and narration... I think freestyle poetry just breaks all (nearly all) of the conventions and that is what attracts me to it. Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah

I am happiest
when I feel myself
extricated
liberated
from the tiniest tentacles
of convention

See,
I just smashed
the above paragraph
with my hammer
of rebelliousness
and converted
narrative
to poem

AGT

Sean

I forgot a few verses that I wrote with that piece (I Wonder Why)..so I will add them.

I wonder why
I still deny.
I wonder why
Daka.

Answer: Reason.

Reason belongs to the world of the opposites (samsara) and needs to look both ways in order to be true to itself.
The awakening you long for is other than reason.
A rational mind will always allow for doubt (as it must, to be rational).

An intuitively mystical mind does not rationalize; it belongs to "inspiration", inner-tuition/intuition.
Therefore sages like Plato call it "Divine madness"
Plato also lumps "love" in the same basket.

Try to rationalize "love".???

It is odd to think that the more we reason (world of the opposites) the further we stray from that moment of awakening we deeply seek.
Maybe that is why your Zen brothers/sisters play with paradox?

Doubt is healthy.
The mystic, I suspect, is found somewhere else. (beyond doubt..beyond reason; just a step in the hallway, or two)

"I noticed you asked Steven what style of poetry this is - I don't know the answer, but it does seem to suit you well." -- Cate

Hi Cate and Sean,

Actually, it was to Sue that this question was asked. I didn't want to be rude in
responding to something I wasn't asked about, so I didn't. But, I'll risk doing so,
though its already been arrived at. I'm not skillful enough, to my knowledge,
to follow any formal styles. Freestyle or freeform is probably right and
it's, maybe, what I use because I'm not schooled in the formal stuff. Charles Bukowski
said something to the effect of "When the spirit is weak form appears." This
was the effect of what he said and may not be an exact quote. I wonder about
that kind of thing. There are lots of arts that carry very nice spirit within the
confines of form and perhaps it is the skillful use of form that turns confines
into the means of expansiveness, in the right hands and applications. I don't
know. I'm a novice at this and lots of other stuff. But, I do think about this.

Hi Cate

bump bump

AGT ... I used 'all good things' in a poem once and Liz pointed out that it was a signature of Leonard's, also used by John E. From then on I have used it as an acronym 'AGT' being somewhat lazy. It is like saying 'best wishes', but has it's own slightly expanded or more vast implication to my mind.

Yes 'Reason' is necessary
But it leads one to
A place where reason is no longer
Needed

The destination is the realization
That there is no difference between
Samsara and Nirvana
Then Reason and
Discrimination
Disappear

Today I found the 'long answer' to Diane's question in Leonard's lyrics to
"Here it Is"

(Here it is)

Ebm
(Here is your crown)
(And your seal and rings)
(And here is your love)
(For all things)

Ebm
Here is your cart
And your cardboard and piss
And here is your love
For all of this

Abm
May everyone live
Bbm7 Ebm
May everyone die
Abm
Hello, my love
Bb7 Ebm
And my love, Goodbye

(Here it is)
(Here it is)

(Here is your wine)
(And your drunken fall)
(And here is your love)
(Your love for it all)

Here is your sickness
Your bed and your pan
And here is your love
For the woman, the man

May everyone live
May everyone die
Hello, my love
And my love, Goodbye

(Here it is)
(Here it is)

(And here is the night)
(The night has begun)
(And here is your death)
(In the heart of your son)

And here is the dawn
Until death do us part
And here is your death
In your daughter's heart

May everyone live
And may everyone die
Hello, my love
And my love, Goodbye

(And may everyone live)
(May everyone die)
Hello, my love
And my love, Goodbye

(Here it is)
(Here it is)

(And here you are hurried)
(And here you are gone)
(And here is the love)
(It's all built upon)

Here is your cross
Your nails and your hill
And here is the love
That lists where it will

May everyone live
And may everyone die
Hello, my love
And my love, Goodbye

And may everyone live
And may everyone die
Hello, my love
And my love, Goodbye

(Here it is)
(Here it is)
(Here it is)

I REALLY like this song, and am trying hard to learn to play it. The chord changes are so simple that for me it is difficult.... (invisible obstacles)

This is about as dark as Leonard can get!!!!

Wow. It's funny, I always skip over this song, because I don't like the 'cardboard and piss' line (daft reason). I haven't even read this song before today. I just now read it many times. What an incredible song about acceptance, to rival If It Be Your Will. Sometimes things are really crap but here is your love even for This. Great that you found your answer from LC, Sean.
